Hello golfers,
I trust this finds you well and that you are all starting to get some golf in amongst the showers. I am pleased that many of you are taking care to check the condition of your spikes as this is crucial for your safety when playing out on the golf course. If you are unsure of which type of spike you should be using then please come in to the Pro Shop and we help you make the correct decision. As a reminder, please ensure that you exit any tees or greens at the shallowest point of any slopes to minimise the chances of you slipping. We have had some very positive feedback from a lot of golfers regarding our judgement of when the course is open and our communication regarding course conditions. We try our best to keep you engaged with what's happening at the club and update you as to current course conditions. We will continue to do this as well as add further communications as we approach the golfing season.
Get your golf in shape
Despite the indifferent weather hampering us somewhat at times, we have seen a massive influx of golfers wanting to start getting their games in shape ready for the season. This can be done in many ways such as individual or group lessons. We have coaching plans and sessions for everyone and are constantly seeing some fantastic improvements from our pupils. Even if you are at a point where you feel you are beyond help, which you are not by the way, we can easily help you improve which of course will then increase your enjoyment of the game and extend to the social side of golf.
We are here to help so please come and talk to us and get some advice on how we can help you. From getting out of a bunker to just gaining confidence off the 1st tee, we can assist you in any way possible. Whilst on the subject, here is a video I shot in Sunny Portugal! Helping you to enjoy our great game is of paramount importance to myself and my team so let's enjoy the process together.

New product buzz is up and running!
We are currently receiving demo product for some of this year's new ranges and it has been creating quite a hype around the club. From Nike's new photo blue Vapor Fly range to the new PING G range, it's been great to get some of you hitting the product and receiving some great feedback. We will soon be choosing our product testers out of the fantastic response we have had and will be publishing their feedback in the newsletter. We will also be arranging demo days where all of you are welcome to come along and have a hit with this year's new products.
Is your spin correct?
Now for many of us spin is that dreaded factor making our ball curve left to right and finish near those feared trees. A question I would ask is what would be the factors causing that spin? On the other side of the coin you may watch the Professionals on television and wonder how they manage to get their ball to grip around the flag? That is a good variation of spin.
For many of us spin (sideways) can be reduced by the correct strike point of the club, the right equipment and ensuring our technique is up to scratch through regular tuition. You will be amazed how differing the point of strike on the face can make such a huge difference to shot curvature even if a similar swing is used. To create the extra (back) spin on wedge shots clean grooves are a must, a strike favoring the bottom two grooves on the club helps and the right golf ball for, you can really make a huge difference.

A word from Chris
As you know I am currently going through the PGA Diploma and have had to submit assignments towards my qualification status. I am now starting to receive my results back and I am delighted to announce that I have passed my first assignment which was based upon selling and customer service. I am hoping to receive further results back at any time and will keep you updated with my progress. I am really enjoying my training and am very excited to utilise the knowledge I am building to the benefit of our customers and the Golf Club.
Coaching Initiative
We are currently putting a structure together for the National Get into Golf campaign. The idea is to provide an introduction to golf for anyone keen to try our great game in a fun and friendly environment. We would love you to help us by asking any friends, children, relatives or work colleagues if they like the idea of coming along to the club for some golfing fun. We encourage you to come along with them in a supporting role and even better bring them up to the club prior to their Get into Golf session for a show round and to introduce us to them. This way they will find it much easier when they come for their sessions.
For those of you on social media it would be appreciated if you could like, share, retweet and pass on any of our posts regarding Get into Golf. We are looking at possible starting dates in late March and are just liaising with the Devon County Golf Partnership and once we have concrete dates and times I will let you know for you to pass on.
Valentine's Evening
Our Orchard restaurant is the perfect setting for a Valentine's evening. On Saturday, 13 February Nicola and Tom are holding exactly that. They have put together a superb menu to help create a special evening for you to be able to bring loved ones, family and friends along to and have a superb time. Booking is essential and you can do this by contacting Nicola. We hope you come along and support this superb event and have a fantastic time.
Men's 9-Hole Stableford
A good field took to the course to play a 9-hole stableford at the weekend. Stuart Daw took Division 1 honours with 21pts, pipping Mark Harris by a single point. Pete Layland had the round of the day and maybe his life as he shot a superb gross 34 for 26pts! Funnily enough his score won Division 2 - Charlie Yates must have wondered what he had to do as his brilliant 22pts was a distant 2nd. In Division 3 Darryn Lake recorded a brilliant 23pts to take 1st place with Brian Skelton runner up with 20pts.
