I hope this finds you well and that you have managed to get your golfing year started. At last we have seen a good break in the weather and the course has been starting to get back to normal playing conditions. Chris and Lucy have been busy cutting aprons, greens and semi-rough and the course is showing some fantastic definition. It's been very warming to see so many of you coming up to play and it really feels now as though we are fast approaching the start of the season....even though as I write this there is snow in the air! Temporary blip for an hour.
I have had some excellent feedback regarding this new feature that started last week with our Lady Captain. This week it is the turn of our Teignagers' Captain, Stan Jones.

Favourite hole at Teign Valley?
6th hole. Great test but when you walk off the green and reach the top you just stand there with your mouth open and take in the view, stunning!
Favourite club in the bag?
Approach wedge, I use it where possible and feel very comfortable with it.
Golfing weakness?
Concentration without doubt.
Rule or regulation in golf you would like to see change?
A handicap review should take place more often, not just once a year.

Charity Car Parking Space - This year the charity car parking space is back. Simon has very kindly agreed to donate a car parking space, which can be won for a year in a prize draw. Quiz Night - Get your general knowledge ready as we are holding a Curry and Quiz Night on April 9th. Open to members and non-members you can enter a team of up to eight players. The evening will start at 6.30pm when curry will be served with a pint or glass of wine. The quiz will then get underway at 7.30pm. It should be a fun night so please enter now via Nicola.

Starting the ball in the right direction
Up to 65% with a 7-iron and up to 85% with a driver. Can this really be the amount the clubface influences starting direction? It's an incredibly high percentage when we are worried about so many other factors such as stance, knee bend, club choice etc.
If we can get the ball to start on line there is a much greater chance of it finishing near or on our target.
During the next game you play, take extra time to pick a spot/divot/mark in line with where you want to start the ball and ensure your club is pointing directly at it. If you are practicing at the range or on our practice fairway, take a tour stick and place it in line with the target about 10 yards in front of you. Hit every shot and focus on starting it directly at the stick - if done correctly you should hit the stick every time. Once the starting direction has improved then the next step is to assess the set up, stance, feet direction. Together this will improve the golf a great amount.
