Hello Golfers,
I hope you have had a good golfing week. Life here at the club is starting to get nice and busy. We have a busy calendar of events coming up and we hope the weather can stay on our side as we approach a busy season. It is always nice to put members achievements into the newsletter so if there are any story's to tell of golfing achievements either here or away from the club then please let me have the details to put out in the newsletter.
Valley Cup
A big field took to the course on Saturday to contest the Valley Cup. This is the annual Junior Section fund raising event with all proceeds going towards the development of the juniors. On a really tough scoring day it was interesting to see what scores could be posted and set a target to beat. The early starters struggled to post a score and it was nett 68 leading the way from Gary Carr until Luke Yates posted a brilliant nett 66 which for all the world looked like it would win until Dougie Porter returned a superb nett 64 to take the trophy. A total of £250 was raised for the junior section.
Charlie's the man
Charlie Yates was recently recognised for his recent good form as he was presented with his trophies for winning the Ken Wicks and Ralph Robinson memorial Trophy and the Spring Equinox.
The Valley Vixons
I took a team of our ladies to Exeter Golf Club on Wednesday to play in a ladies pro-am. The " Valley Vixons " team consisted of Vivienne Masterson, Sally Balchin and birthday girl Maggie Thomson. We played a team Stableford format and I also had to keep an individual medal. We had a great time and it was really good fun but unfortunately we found the greens quite tricky and I only really found some form on the last 6 holes!...a bit late by then. None the less it was a great day out and I'd like to thank the ladies for their excellent company.
Basil Steer
The juniors play at East Devon against Tiverton in the Basil Steer trophy this weekend. Good luck to Liam, Harry and Kieran.

Our GC2 Launch Monitor and Simulator
As your PGA Professional I pride myself in giving you the best service possible. When it comes to coaching and custom fitting I have the perfect tool to help you get the most out of your sessions. The GC2 simulator and launch monitor is the market leader when it comes to club and ball data, both crucial when coaching and fitting. By looking at stats like club head speed, launch angle and spin rates I can help suggest technique improvements as well as fit you with any club to best suit your game. We are lucky to have such a great tool at our disposal and it's simple but effective results make it clear for any golfer to see what has happened.
Please contact me at the pro shop to book a fitting or a lesson using the GC2 or simply click here to book your session.
Know how far you hit the ball
Many golfers I play with have no idea of what yardage they have left in to any green. Their club selection is based upon guess work which they may get away with it to an extent as they become familiar with their own course but when they go elsewhere they struggle to get their club selection right. A GPS watch is the perfect way to get a accurate yardage on every shot you play. It displays a yardage to the front, middle and back of any green thus giving you the opportunity to select the correct club needed to cover the required distance. The Skycaddie GPS watch is a fantastic product and is in stock in the pro shop. We have a demo watch available for you to take to the course and try.
Find your numbers
Working in conjunction with a GPS device it is vital that you know how far you hit each club. Using our GC2 launch monitor we can help you to understand how far you hit each club. We can help you perform a gap test which works out the average carry and total distance you hit each of your clubs vital information for the golf course.
An example of this would be your GPS device showing 132 yards to go and you knowing your 8 iron goes 135 would be a pretty good club selection.
To book your fitting please contact the pro shop or click here to book your session.
