Hello golfers,
I hope you are all well.
It's been great to see life here at the Valley so busy this past week. The weather has been pretty settled and the course is playing nicely so it seems that we are nicely in to the golfing season. There is lots to look forward to with a packed competition diary and next month sees our annual staging of our Pro-am and West Region PGA Fourball event.
Happy golfing this week and don't forget to send me any details of golfing achievements either here or away from the club.

Four Seasons 2nd Round
A big field took to the course to contest the second round of The Four Seasons on Saturday.
On a pleasant day of weather it was going to interesting to see how the players fared and what score would be returned.
The best overall score on the day was recorded by Vince Chalk donning his New FootJoy shoes and glove his nett 67 was the best on count back. Vince won Division 3 with his score beating Mark Liddle in to runners up spot. Division 2 was won by Jim Lee who found some form to post a nett 68 beating Peter Hindon on nett 71. Luke Mason signed for a nett 67 to take the Division 1 honours as Richard Aggett came runner up on nett 71.
EWGA Medal
Serena Skinner won the Ladies weekend medal with an excellent nett 72.
Tuesday saw the ladies play a EWGA Medal and the Silver Spoon. Leading the way was Annette Haigh pipping Jane Hodgson in to runners up spot.
Presidents Trophy
The Ladies Presidents Trophy team continued their great start to the season with a superb 7-0 home win over a strong Tiverton side.
On the back of a brilliant 5-2 away win at Yelverton has seen the ladies start the season in fine style.
Junior Basil Steer
The Junior team narrowly lost their Basil Steer inter club match vs Tiverton at East Devon Golf Club on Sunday. The team of Harry Pierce, Liam Hanslip and Kieran Hewings put up a great fight and played with maturity beyond their years as they just came up short.

Our GC2 Launch Monitor and Simulator
As your PGA Professional I pride myself in giving you the best service possible. When it comes to coaching and custom fitting I have the perfect tool to help you get the most out of your sessions. The GC2 simulator and launch monitor is the market leader when it comes to club and ball data, both crucial when coaching and fitting. By looking at stats like club head speed, launch angle and spin rates I can help suggest technique improvements as well as fit you with any club to best suit your game. We are lucky to have such a great tool at our disposal and it's simple but effective results make it clear for any golfer to see what has happened.
Please contact me at the pro shop to book a fitting or a lesson using the GC2 or simply click here to book your session.
Know how far you hit the ball
Many golfers I play with have no idea of what yardage they have left in to any green. Their club selection is based upon guess work which they may get away with it to an extent as they become familiar with their own course but when they go elsewhere they struggle to get their club selection right. A GPS watch is the perfect way to get a accurate yardage on every shot you play. It displays a yardage to the front, middle and back of any green thus giving you the opportunity to select the correct club needed to cover the required distance. The Skycaddie GPS watch is a fantastic product and is in stock in the pro shop. We have a demo watch available for you to take to the course and try.
Find your numbers
Working in conjunction with a GPS device it is vital that you know how far you hit each club. Using our GC2 launch monitor we can help you to understand how far you hit each club. We can help you perform a gap test which works out the average carry and total distance you hit each of your clubs vital information for the golf course.
An example of this would be your GPS device showing 132 yards to go and you knowing your 8 iron goes 135 would be a pretty good club selection.
To book your fitting please contact the pro shop or click here to book your session.
Anniversary Cup
The sign up sheet for the Anniversary Cup is in the Pro Shop.
This is one of the clubs biggest trophy events and sees a trophy to win for the best score in all sections. Please put your name down to play and support a brilliant event.
The date is Saturday 24th May.
Monday Roll Up
Monday 12th May sees the first Monday Roll Up being played.
This is designed to give players another chance of playing a qualifying round or a round to keep handicaps active.
Unlike the Wednesday roll up which is all day the Monday roll up will have set tee off times between 4.45pm and 5.30pm and players can ONLY tee off within these times.
This will be a separate competition to a Wednesday so players can play in both if they so wish.
Annual Pro-am
- We are moving towards our annual Pro-am which is on Tuesday 17th June.
- As usual this proceeds the West Region PGA Fourball event in which myself and Ben came runner up in last year. The Pro-am is always a fantastic day for the amateurs as you get to play with a West Region Professional in a team event format.
- We have nearest the pins as well as a fantastic prize table and each competitor receives a bacon bap and coffee as well as a 2 course meal after play.
We hope that many of you will support the day and we would love you to start entering your teams of 3 players to which we can then allocate you a Professional.
To enter please contact myself or Chris in the Pro Shop.
