Hello golfers,
I hope this finds you well and that you have all enjoyed your bank holiday weekend. It's amazing to think that the schools return next week. Summer sure has flown by and much of that is down to the good weather and the amount of golf we have been able to play. This week will see final preparations take place for next Sunday's annual Pro-Am event. As always, the event has been fantastically supported and so thank you to all the members who are playing and helping to make the day the huge success I'm sure it will be.
Our bank holiday sale went extremely well and we were very busy with lots of customers coming in to pick up some superb bargains. I have decided to extend the sale for one week so why not come by the pro shop and pick up a fantastic deal?
The winning pair in Saturday's 4BBB Stableford competition were Darren and Nick Old with a superb 48 points, pipping Kevin Walkling and Mark Hawkesby by a single point. In third place were Steve Rice and David Slee.
Congratulations to Stuart Jose who became the Scratch Knockout champion by defeating Neil Woolfrey in the 36-hole final.
A massive well done to the ladies Still Cup team on their semi-final victory last Friday against Saunton at Woodbury Park. They will now face Torquay in the final at a venue to be decided at the end of September.
Five Exeter G&CC players made up half of the county 1st team who played Gloucestershire, one of the best teams currently in the country, at Cotswold Hills GC in the Channel League. Although the team were well beaten by a very classy side ranging from +1 to +4, the Exeter lads won all but a half of Devon's points. Ryan Pope, partnered by James Reed, earned Devon their only half point in the morning foursomes, and in the singles both Ryan and Jack Pope won their singles, and James Reed picked up another great half. Both Harrison Greenberry and George Robinson only narrowly lost their singles on the 18th and 17th.
Progress on the new teaching and custom fitting studio keeps going and over the next week we will see a massive change. Last week the mezzanine floor was put in as well as a second wall upstairs. This will create some storage space as well creating a projector wall. Although no official date can be given I am hoping by mid-September we will be unveiling our superb new facility.
Name the studio competition - Right golfers, time to think outside the box a little. I'm looking for a name for the new coaching and fitting studio. I want you to come up with an idea you think would work for its new name. Don't go too obvious! If I really like a suggestion then we will go with that name and the winner will get to officially open the new studio and win a FREE round of golf on the simulator. Get your thinking caps on and email me your suggestions here.
I have given quite a few short game lessons recently with a common theme often coming from them. Many golfers will vary what type of ball they play from round to round and sometimes hole to hole without realising the consequence this brings to their ability to obtain feel and judge distance. Think of this.... You get used to driving your car because you drive it all the time and you feel the same in the car. Imagine having to drive a different car every day and how awkward that would feel and the time it would take to get used to each car. Well it's a bit like that when you use different golf balls all the time. How can you get used to a ball and learn how it performs? Getting the same feel out of a ball every time you chip and putt is vital for improved performance. It hasn't got to be the most expensive ball but just the same ball. Come in to the pro shop and talk to us about how balls really do make a difference.
Winter MOT - Make sure you read next week's newsletter as it will give you details for our winter MOT package. This will be a great opportunity to get yourself set-up to combat the winter months ahead.
It is a fact that a lot of amateur golfers are put off having lessons due to the fear of having everything changed and having to learn a completely new technique. I can honestly state that this will never happen when having coaching with myself and or my team. I always find that although most people think they do everything wrong, this is simply not the case. Therefore one of the most important things I do is to explain to a golfer what they do well. The key then is to identify what is causing the golfer's bad shot and start to work on that. I only work on something that will help the golfer play better. It's what will get the results better that counts, not how it looks. There is no method that we should all follow to hit any golf shot. How can there be when we are all so individual? It's all about you and how we can get you to play better.
If I can get a golfer to understand how their own swing works and how they can rectify bad shots then we are winning straight away. I want golfers to embrace having lessons, not fear them. So if you'd like a one-to-one lesson, get in touch here.
