Greetings from Darren Everett
Teign Valley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello golfers,

I trust this finds you well.

It's been another busy week here at the club with lots of golfers taking to the course.

The evenings are drawing out nicely and it's a great time to pop up and play some evening golf. There are lots of opportunities to play from structured sectional competitions to The Monday and Wednesday roll ups as well as the mixed roll up at the weekend.

We have some big club days coming up which includes the Anniversary Cup and Captains Day. The Anniversary sign up sheet is in the Pro Shop so please come in and sign up.

New face at the Valley

Some of you will already have seen a New face around at the Valley. The New face is my Fiancée. Leah Webber. Leah has joined us from Bovey Castle where she has been working as Events Co-ordinator. Leah will be working alongside Nicola in trying to provide some social element for the members to get involved with as well as some New initiatives with the catering.

Leah is combining duties between the two places for the rest of May but then comes on full time with us from June.

I'm sure you will say hello and give her a warm welcome when your next at the Club.

Players Championship

It was great to see a return to form for Martin Kaymer at the weekend as he led from start to finish in capturing the Players Championship title. In Ryder Cup year it is brilliant news and he played with an aura about him reminiscent of how he did when he reached World Number 1 a few years ago. He is one of many who is seeing the benefit of "lofting up" and using the Taylormade SLDR driver.

If you would like to demo the Taylormade SLDR driver then please book your fitting now.

Teignagers Medal

Gordon Thomson was the man to post the best score in the Teignagers Medal as his nett 67 secured top spot in Division 1. Runner up was Roger Cox with nett 71.

Division 2 was taken by Phil Case with a nett 69 beating Reg Paley in to runners up spot.

Midweek Stableford

Ian Lake won the midweek Stableford with an excellent 39pts. Runner up and armed with his New Wilson irons was Adrian Evans with 37pts.

Monday Roll Up

New member Matt R Lee won the very first Monday Roll Up with 33pts beating Mark Harris on count back.

New Motocaddy hire fleet now available

This week I took delivery of my new fleet of Motocaddy electric hire trolleys. If you have been thinking about buying an electric trolley or just want to upgrade a existing one then we can let you take one out for a demo hire and when you purchase your New trolley we will refund you your hire fee.

We will also look to offer you a trade in price if you are upgrading a existing electric trolley, depending on the model and condition.

Our GC2 Launch Monitor and Simulator

As your PGA Professional I pride myself in giving you the best service possible. When it comes to coaching and custom fitting I have the perfect tool to help you get the most out of your sessions. The GC2 simulator and launch monitor is the market leader when it comes to club and ball data, both crucial when coaching and fitting. By looking at stats like club head speed, launch angle and spin rates I can help suggest technique improvements as well as fit you with any club to best suit your game. We are lucky to have such a great tool at our disposal and it's simple but effective results make it clear for any golfer to see what has happened.

Please contact me at the pro shop to book a fitting or a lesson using the GC2 or simply click here to book your session.

Know how far you hit the ball

Many golfers I play with have no idea of what yardage they have left in to any green. Their club selection is based upon guess work which they may get away with it to an extent as they become familiar with their own course but when they go elsewhere they struggle to get their club selection right. A GPS watch is the perfect way to get a accurate yardage on every shot you play. It displays a yardage to the front, middle and back of any green thus giving you the opportunity to select the correct club needed to cover the required distance. The Skycaddie GPS watch is a fantastic product and is in stock in the pro shop. We have a demo watch available for you to take to the course and try.

Find your numbers gap testing

Working in conjunction with a GPS device it is vital that you know how far you hit each club. Using our GC2 launch monitor we can help you to understand how far you hit each club. We can help you perform a gap test which works out the average carry and total distance you hit each of your clubs vital information for the golf course.

An example of this would be your GPS device showing 132 yards to go and you knowing your 8 iron goes 135 would be a pretty good club selection.

To book your fitting please contact the pro shop or click here to book your session.

We will trade in your old irons

As the new golfing season approaches many of you will be thinking about treating yourselves to some new irons. Please remember that as your PGA Club Professional I am the most qualified person to help you find the correct set of irons for you. With the aid of our GC2 launch monitor I can give you the ultimate custom fit experience to make sure that we are fitting you correctly for your new clubs. We will look at elements such as shaft length and flex, grip size, lie angle and lofts to try to get the most out of your game.

The bonus for you as the customer is that all this comes FREE if you make a purchase on what you have been fitted for.

We also offer a FREE 3 month check up so we can make sure that you are totally happy with your purchase.

To help with the cost of your new clubs we offer a trade in on your old clubs. The price we offer depends on the age and condition of the clubs but we are more than happy to discuss this with you.

So if you've been thinking of treating yourself then now is a great time to pop in to the pro shop and talk to us about a custom fitting.

Annual Pro-am

We are moving towards our annual Pro-am which is on Tuesday 17th June.

As usual this proceeds the West Region PGA Fourball event in which myself and Ben came runner up in last year. The Pro-am is always a fantastic day for the amateurs as you get to play with a West Region Professional in a team event format.

We have nearest the pins as well as a fantastic prize table and each competitor receives a bacon bap and coffee as well as a 2 course meal after play.

We hope that many of you will support the day and we would love you to start entering your teams of 3 players to which we can then allocate you a Professional.

To enter please contact myself or Chris in the Pro Shop.

Save yourself time and money, go lithium!

Sure, a lithium trolley battery may cost a little more than its lead acid alternative; but Motocaddy lithium lasts five times longer, is a fraction of the weight and recharges much faster. For trolley power, it pays to play the long game.

TaylorMade SLDR

With the introduction of TaylorMade’s SLDR Mini driver and SLDR S family, as well as a white version of the original SLDR driver, there are more options for us to work with. The 260cc Mini features a low-forward centre of gravity which means you may well benefit from playing a higher loft.
