Hello golfers,
So it feels like this week that winter is on its way. Cold mornings and evenings now seem to be the norm but yet we are still having some superb weather throughout the day, allowing plenty of golfers the opportunity to continue to take advantage of the golf course still in fine condition. We have started to have delivery's of some of our winter stock in both mens and ladies so next time you are at the club please drop in and take a look.
Where has that time gone?
It is hard to believe that I have now been in my role as Head Professional for 5 months! Part of me feels that I have been here just a few weeks and part of me feels that I have been here a few years.
I feel very settled at the club and want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the members and club officials for being so friendly and supportive since I arrived back in May. It has been a whirlwind few months as it has been very busy at the club with a full schedule of golfing events as well as the official opening of the new course layout. We also had the arrival of Oscar George who is doing really well and is now enjoying his first swimming lessons here at the club.
When I started my role I outlined a vision of what I wanted to achieve in terms of the Pro Shop, our relationships with the members and coaching goals. Although, as my own worst critic, there are elements of my vision I have yet to fulfill, although I do feel I have achieved a fair amount in the 5 months that have passed.
From re-fitting the Pro Shop, to structuring the Junior Golf Academy and the Get into Golf campaign, to then becoming performance coach to both Exeter University and Exeter College, and now to the building and opening of the new indoor golf studio, there has been plenty to get my teeth in to. Most importantly though, beyond all that, I think that building relationships and friendships with the members has been the most important goal I have achieved. As a team, myself, James and Chris are very straight forward characters who are very outgoing and are very professional. We are totally committed to giving the members an all round first class service and strive every day to become better at what we do to enhance your golfing experience further.
The fact you have welcomed us with open arms has made our transition into your new professional team so much easier and enjoyable. Thank you to all of you and we look forward to welcoming you in to the Pro Shop for many years to come.
Christmas Draw
It's amazing to think that Christmas is fast approaching! It just seems like we have finished summer and now we are starting to think about the festive period. from next week, in the Pro Shop we will be starting to sell tickets for our Pro Shop Christmas draw. There will be some great prizes and one lucky ticket will have the opportunity to play for a bonus prize in our "Simulator Challenge".
The tickets will be numbered 1 - 500 and the amount you pay for your ticket is based upon the number of the ticket you draw out of the hat at random. Every ticket number is the amount in pence you pay for your ticket. So if you pick ticket number 10 you will pay 10p for your ticket. Pick ticket 320 and you pay £3.20 for your ticket. Therefore the minimum you pay for a ticket is 1p and the maximum is £5.

Just In Time For Winter
Now that the new indoor golf studio is open we have some superb winter coaching packages that as a team we can offer our members. Many of you are already taking advantage of this and are already working hard on improving your games.
Winter is a great time to evaluate your game and try to work on areas of your game that cost you shots, in order to start out next year with a game geared for better scores and more enjoyment.

Winter Stock Now In
This week has seen the arrival of some of our winter stock. We will have a superb range of products aimed at helping to keep you all golfing this winter. From waterproof golf bags, to rain grip gloves and snoods, we will have winter covered in the Pro Shop. With brands stocked such as Galvin Green, Under Armour, FootJoy, Nike and Rohnisch, we will cater for all your winter wants. Come in and take a look at what's arrived so far and get geared up for the winter season.
Amazing Achievement
Exeter Golf and Country Club member Ian Porter last month completed a milestone by playing his 400th different golf course. Ian began recording the different courses that he played back in the late 1960s. Within the last 40 years of golf, Ian has played the complete British Open Championship rota (past and present there are 14 venues, can you name them?) - this has been his highlight. Ian has his doubts about reaching the 500 number but goes to Arizona later in the year to continue the golfing journey. Well done Ian and keep going!
Honour For Mike
Mike Kirkham has just been elected President of the DMVGA for the coming year, 2017. Mike is extremely proud to be elected into the position, which will include hosting the DMVGA President's Salver here at Exeter Golf and Country Club on Thursday 27th April 2017. Congratulations Mike and we wish you every success with your term in office.
Rick's Big Year Continues
It is pretty safe to say that Rick Pillow has had an incredible year on the golf course. Not only has he won the Devon and Southwest Seniors titles but he was also part of a very successful palareit team who narrowly lost in the final, back in August. He has also been elected Captain of the Devon Seniors and has recently represented Devon in the National Seniors County Finals at Chipping Sodbury where he yet again performed very well.
