Hello golfers,

And so "it's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas" in many ways at the moment. There are lots of club events on which happen at this time of year including the Turkey Trot this weekend. The weather is also making it feel that way as the temperature has dropped and we are seeing frost on the ground.

We have our tree up in the Pro Shop and have some fantastic gift ideas for Christmas. Our winter lesson package vouchers are selling very well so we will be nice and busy helping lots of you improve your games before next season.

Let's hope we can all enjoy a nice build up to the festive season.

Course news

Frost on The Course

We have just started to see some frost now in the morning, as the temperatures plummeted below 0 overnight. With this in mind please be aware that it is very likely that you will be unable to use your trolleys so we advise that you put a small carry bag in the boot of your car so you are prepared to carry if needed. Today it has a feel of -2 so it is very unlikely that the frost will lift so it will be carrying only all day.

The reason that we go on to temporary greens and have no trolleys is the likely burning of the grass on the course. If you look at this picture it shows you the after effect of where trolleys have been let out on frosty grass. I am sure you will agree that none of us would like to see this scenario on our course so this is precisely why trolleys are banned. The knock on effect to the greens is that, if we put the greens back on when the fairways and rough are still frozen, golfers are likely to walk frost on to the greens on their shoes and we have the same risk again of the grass being burnt beyond repair! Every green keeper's and golfers' worst nightmare!

I just thought I would give you a little insight as to the reasons behind the trolley ban and temporary greens this time of year.

Upcoming events

Turkey Trot

This Sunday I will be holding my first Turkey Trot here at the club and I am delighted to say that the support has been nothing short of fantastic! Thank you so much to all of you who have put your names down to play. We are oversubscribed and I have had to double up starting positions on 7 holes to fit the 100 golfers in who wish to play. I will be sending out 7 teams on certain tees at 8.55am just to get them away and in position to help the play start flowing. I appreciate your understanding over the pace of play which may be a little slow and hope everyone can enjoy a nice stroll around the course in a fun format on which should be a great club day.

Black_Friday

Our Black Friday sale was a huge success last weekend. We still have some great savings on clubs, shoes, clothing and much more. This really is a great time to pick up a bargain so be sure to come along and save yourself some money.

It is the ideal time to pick up some Christmas presents.

Club news

Captains' Drive In

Sunday saw the annual Captains' Drive in take place. With Janet Milford away, Chris Quantick stepped in to drive off for the lady captain alongside the men's captain Keith Parnall. Over 100 people attended to watch the tee shots. Chris donned a Janet mask to appear on the tee whilst I presented Keith with a squash racket and ball to hit his opening tee shot, much to the amusement of those present. Their actual tees were struck well and combined for a 363 yard total. The captains and their guests then returned to the Duckworth Suite to enjoy a lovely meal followed by the traditional incoming speeches.
