Hello golfers,

As I write this it seems like summer is here for a few days! Lets hope it's a sign of things to come and we can look forward to a summer full of sunny days and lots of golf being played. The season is now well underway and the busy diary of golfing events comes thick and fast. This week we have the Ladies 3 Ball Open on Friday and the Men's Invitation Day on Saturday. It's a big weekend for the city of Exeter on a sporting level as Saturday sees the Chiefs line up at Twickenham in the Premiership Final and City at Wembley on Sunday in the playoff final.

Good luck to both and to those heading to London safe travels and enjoy your days out.

Competition news

Ladies Pro Am

Last Thursday saw the annual Ladies Pro-Am take place at the club. A good field of 32 teams took to the course to play for a superb prize table. The weather was good and the course was in superb condition. Leading home in tied first place in the individual pro event was James, as he tied on 67 with 3 other pros. Tom signed for a 70, Ben had 69 and I was left to rue back to back double bogeys on 10 and 11 in my 73. Chris had a great day with his team but didn't quite have his A game. The team event was won by the team from Dainton Park on a superb score of 14 under. I had a lovely day with my team of Lynne Beevers, Debbie More and Abi Turner

The day was superbly run and a huge well done to all the starters and marshalls, the ladies on the half way house and the raffle, but most importantly the Pro Am committee led by Chris Quantick and Janet Milford and supported by Gill Newberry and Lynne Beevers. Also well done to Ben for all his hard work and a special thanks to all the sponsors and in particular the main sponsor System Six.

Congrats Tom

More playing success came this week for the Pro Shop Team as Tom went to the final event of the Assistants Sprint Series at Cumberwell Park.

Sitting 5th in the order of merit Tom needed a good round to move up. He achieved that and more as his 66 tied first on the day but sent him to the top of the order of merit and a well deserved title to his name.

BMW Monthly Stableford

John Bamford was the top performer in the BMW stableford last weekend as he recorded 41pts. Joining John in the regional final from Division 2 was Colin Chalk with 40pts. Mike Gorman and Ali Jack both had 40pts to go through from Division 1.

Optional Sunday Stableford

Nick Rudling won the optional Sunday stableford with 39pts. Simon Holmes was runner up with 37pts.

Ladies Club Championships

Julia Norman won the Ladies Club Championship Scratch event with a gross 74 beating mum Annie by 5 shots. However Annie gained revenge in the nett and made it a family double with a nett 70.

James Comes Of Age

Last weekend saw the Devon Mens Amateur Championships take place at Tiverton. Exeter member James Reed produced some outstanding golf to claim the title at only 14 years of age! This is a remarkable achievement and is another stepping stone on the journey to even greater success. James qualified from the stroke play in 3rd place with a 3 under par total over the 2 rounds. He then beat Chris McGill from the Warren 5&4 in the semi final and then Dan Rosevear in the final 3&2. Congratulations James on your fantastic achievement.

Product spotlight

Callaway Supersoft

The Callaway Supersoft golf ball is Callaway's softest golf ball they have ever produced. Don't let this fool you this golf ball still can deliver plenty of distance from both your driver and irons.

Softest Golf Ball

Supersoft is Callaway's softest golf ball ever. It has a compression of only 38, which is 20 lower than some of our most popular 2-piece balls.

Super Long

This really is a super long golf ball, thanks to an Ultra Low Compression core that delivers maximum ball speed with reduced spin for increased distance. And more distance seems to make golfers happy.

Super Straight

Incredibly straight ball flight. The super low spin is the catalyst that makes it happen.
