Hello golfers,

And so another golfing week passes us by as we surge forward into the main part of the golfing season. The weather has been mixed to say the least with last week starting very hot and the course starting to burn out and play almost links like. However since the weekend it has been a little wet but we can blame John and the greenkeeping staff as I am sure they would have been doing a little rain dance after the lack of rain recently. Having played on Tuesday you can already start to see it going back to a more green colour again.

Club championships

Men's Club Championship

Last weekend saw the staging of the Men's Club Championship. The Scratch Trophy was played for over 36 holes and the nett over 18. After round 1 in the scratch it was Harrison Greenberry who led the way after an excellent 66. Jack Pope was 2nd with 69 and Stuart Jose 3rd with 71. The afternoon saw Harrison record a 71 for a 137 total and a 6 shot victory over Jack. Stuart came 3rd. In the nett competition it was Andy Jack who came out on countback with a nett 65 pipping Peter Reggler, Geoff Pascoe and Martin Woodward who also recorded nett 65.

Competition news

Midweek Stableford

A good size field took to the course to compete in the Midweek Stableford. Chris Hart took top spot with 42pts. Runner Up was Neil Harper with 40pts and 3rd was Darren Taylor with 39pts.

Ladies Medal

Vera Anderson took the honours in Division 1 of the ladies medal with a fine nett 69. Sian Clarke was runner up with a nett 70 and also scooped the twos pot with the only two! Sylvia Audin had the round of the day with a fantastic nett 63 to win Division 2. Caroline Harris was runner up with a nett 69. Christine Ashby continued the fine scoring by winning Division 3 with a nett 68. Liz Neill was runner up with a nett 71.

Improving your game

Helping Your Game

In the next 2 weeks I will be releasing details of coaching seminars that be will be holding over July and August with one goal in mind. To help you to improve your game.

The sessions will be structured and will cover different aspects of the game including putting, chipping, pitching, bunkers as well as driving and fairway woods. You will be given notes on the session covering the key points so you will have something to reference back to as a reminder of key points covered.

We will be offering mixed session as well as sessions for ladies and seniors.

We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to improve your golf in a structured and fun environment.

Captain pro challenge

Myself and Keith have embarked on our Captain and Pro Challenge with aim of raising money for the Captains Charity whilst playing some fun but competitive golf with the members. Our first match was against Andy Sheppard and James Mullins. This was a nip and tuck affair all the way and despite throwing the kitchen sink at them on the back 9 they managed to pip us by 1 hole. Myself and Keith were 8 under better ball and still lost!

Match 2 saw Geoff Pascoe and Colin Papworth take up the challenge. Despite being 6 under through 9 holes Geoff and Colin were 2 down as myself and Keith charged through the front 9 in 8 under! The back 9 was a little more cagey and in the end we ran out winners by 2 holes. The scoring again was superb as our 59 better ball pipped their 61!

Next up was the pair of Nigel Armstrong and Mike Gorman. Having driven the green to win the first with a birdie I took the role of Goose and played wing man to Keith who played some inspired stuff! Nigel and Mike put up a good fight and with Keith and Nigel halving the 5th in nett eagles it was another good tussle. However a little run of winning 9 and 10 gave us a 4 hole lead and, despite a great birdie on 15 by Mike, we ran out winners by 3 holes.

The matches have been played in great spirit and some great golf has been played. Myself and Keith are 25 under par in the matches so far.

Next up is Paul Smale and Ben More.
