Hello golfers,

I hope this finds you well. We are being blessed again at the moment with some fine weather which, accompanied by the course being in great condition, really makes you want to play as much golf as possible. I have got a real bug for playing at the moment and am no different to anyone else, when you play a little more you play better and so the bug grows stronger. I think one of the main ingredients for me is that I just go out to have fun on the course and enjoy being lucky enough to be playing. Of course I want to play well but it's not the end of the world so why beat yourself up. We all play the game because we enjoy it and the people we play with, never lose sight of that.

Farewell to James

You will probably have seen the email I sent out this week regarding James Maxwell leaving his position as one of my assistants here at the club. James has worked for me for 3 years but has now decided to start his own business closer to home. I would like to thank James for all his hard work and efforts and I am sure you will join me in wishing him all the best in his new venture. Please take the time to pop into the Pro Shop and say goodbye before he leaves on August 13th.

Competition news

Palariet Plate

Last Sunday a very young...well almost very young team go to compete in the Palariet Plate at Woodbury Park. The team of James Reed, Lewis Beer, Max Parsons, Jack Jeffery, Fred Bishop and the biggest junior of all, Ali Ross, performed superbly to record an excellent victory. This really is a vision of the future of the men's team for years to come.  However I have heard this week that Ali has been in contact with Irene, head of memberships, trying to become an honorary junior member!

Monthly Stableford

Kurtis Hatch was the main man in the Monthly Stableford as his brilliant 43pts was the best recorded and also won Division 3. Runner up in Division 3 was Paul Browning with 40pts with Nick Old 3rd with 36pts. 39pts by Adrian Hewitt won Division 2, runner up was Lee Gresham with 39pts and 3rd was Ian Drysdale with 37pts. Sam Holmes topped Division 1 with 39pts on countback from Stuart Jose and Mike Gorman.

Optional Stableford

Canice O'Mahony won the Optional Sunday Stableford with an excellent 43pts. Martin Naden was runner up with 41pts and Sam Holmes 3rd with 38pts.

Ladies Betterball Stableford

A good field took part in the ladies betterball stableford last week. The scoring was very good with Jackie Harris and Sharon Thorpe leading the way on countback with 45pts. They pipped the pair of Teresa Ratcliffe and Vera Anderson. Pat Nicks and Ali Crooks were 3rd with 44pts.

Wednesday Stableford

Steve Rice was top of the leaderboard in the Wednesday Stableford as his 42pts saw his handicap cut to single figures. Runner up on countback was Pete Money and 3rd was John Spiller with 40pts.

Coaching news

Let's Keep It Simple

Most of the best golf lessons are always based around the word simple. Keeping it simple for the pupil to understand and also keeping it simple to allow the pupil a good opportunity to make any required change. The golf swing is not about looks and perfection it is about being functional and being repetitive. Obviously, sometimes in making a productive change to a technique you will improve its visual image. This however is a bi-product of the change being made. It is important to understand how your golf swing functions and what little keys make you play your best golf. By understanding your swing you can learn to get around the course in lower scores even when you don't quite have your A game.

Contact the Pro Shop or click here to come and have a swing review - You wont regret it!

Upcoming events

Pro's Day

I am delighted that I have a full field of 194 players for my first ever Pros Day. The format is better ball pairs stableford. We have a fantastic prize table lined up with the 1st prize worth £300 per person. We will be having nearest the pins on every hole as well as FREE goodies at sign in and a half way house.. The 4th hole is going to be great fun as this is where we will be having our betting hole! The way this works is you cannot lose but you can gain. Let's say you bet me £100 that you will hit the green. Regardless of what happens that £100 goes into your Pro Shop account. However if you hit the green I will put another £100 on your account - It's that simple!

The minimum bet will be £10 and the maximum bet £200. This needs to be paid in the pro shop prior to play.

It promises to be a great day so bring your A game and your sense of fun!
