So, another week passes and there is definitely a feeling of both better weather and lighter evenings. Surely music to golfers’ ears. I managed to get out for 4 holes after work the other night and it felt great to be out there before dark fell again. I have to say the course is standing up very well despite the recent poor weather we have faced. Full credit to John, Dave and the rest of the greens staff for doing a great job for us all.

I'm in need of your help...

Would you like to be a product tester for me? I am looking to put together a group of golfers who would be prepared to give up an hour or so of their time to act as new product testers and be willing to give their feedback on the product. We have some fantastic new product in store now and we want to know what you think about the product and its value for money.

This week the team and I were lucky to host the Foremost Golf Regional Workshop here at the club in the fantastic newly refurbished Mews Function Room.

These are always informative events with like-minded, pro-active professionals attending, so you are always likely to pick up a couple of ideas to improve your business and the service you give to your customers.

Professional fitting on the latest products

As new product starts to be released I have managed to secure a couple of early season fitting days for you to take advantage of. There are some fantastic new products out for launch this year and it’s great that we have some expert fitters to come down and fit you with equipment that best suits your game.

Titleist Fitting Day - Wednesday 7th March

This is a superb opportunity to come along and get fitted for any of the following: 917 drivers and fairways; 818 hybrids; 718 iron range; and Vokey SM7 wedges. Fitting sessions led by Titleist's custom fit expert will take place in the golf studio with the wedges on the short game area.

The chance to try and be fitted for any of the following: Rogue drivers, fairways and hybrids; Epic drivers, fairways and hybrids; Callaway’s complete iron range; plus Mack Daddy 4 wedges.

I am need of your help, again!

I need 4 golfers to be able to test the new Tour Soft Golf ball from Titleist. The 4 testers will be given a sleeve of 3 balls to take away and test with the idea being in a couple of weeks time that they provide honest feedback which I can the n publish in my newsletter.

Great feedback on the pro shop

It has been great to have so many positive comments on how the pro shop is starting to look ahead of the new season. We have made some really good changes within the shop over the past few weeks including new in store display units and having the new carpet fitted.

We will continue to find ways of improving both the layout of the shop, what we stock and most importantly the service we provide.

Don't overlook its importance

For years one of the key questions when buying a new driver was: regular, stiff or x-stiff? It goes to show that people have always known that the shaft needs to be considered, but how much importance should we place on it?

Correct shaft, better statistics
Do you want to hit more fairways this season? The two ball flights you can see below perfectly display the risks of using a shaft flex or shaft weight that’s poorly matched to your swing speed.

Course Illustration

A shaft that is too stiff or heavy will likely lead to a lower ball flight that can leak right (like the red arrow), whereas a shaft that is too light or flexible often kills distance and causes hooks (like the white arrow). Working together it won’t take long to narrow down the best shafts to optimise your distance and accuracy, helping you to hit more fairways.

Getting the right head to match the shaft will also play a big part, and one we could try is the Titleist 917 D3 driver. It not only has an adjustable hosel we can use to optimise your launch for a piercing ball flight, but it also has an adjustable sole weight that we can alter to counter your common bad shot and improve your accuracy.

When and why?

When it comes to golf equipment, there are very few things we see neglected as much as grips, which is surprising when you consider they are your only point of contact with the club. If you keep on reading you’ll find out why it’s important to keep your grips in good condition and when you should look to replace them, as well as an offer that we're currently running in-store.

When should you consider a regrip?
Small amounts of wear occur with each use of your grips and it’s easy to miss early warning signs. As a rule-of-thumb, your grips should be replaced every 40 rounds, but this can be sooner if you practice regularly. For most of you, that would mean replacing your grips every year.

Why regrip?
Worn grips force you to hold the club tighter than usual, increasing pressure and tension in your hands, wrists and arms. This reduces the head speed you can create and therefore your distance. However, using a tacky grip that matches the size of your hands – no, it’s not one size fits all – will cater for a lighter pressure and give you more confidence on every swing.
