Dial your wedges If I ask you to be honest with the following question I guarantee it will get you thinking. Do you know how far you hit your wedges with a quarter, half, three quarter and full swing? If yes, then providing you have 3 wedges you should be able to write down 9 different distances you can hit your wedge shots. If you cant do this you are losing shots. The concept is simple. You need to build what I call a wedge matrix. The idea is that you hit shots with 3 different swing lengths to see how far each swing length hits the ball with each of your wedges. Start by swinging the club from hip level to hip level (short swing) and work out how far on average the ball goes. Now do the same by swinging the club to chest level to chest level (mid swing) and again judge how far they are going. Then swing from eye level through to eye level (long swing) and again judge the distance they are traveling. You also have your full swing distance as well. At the end of this you will have a wedge matrix of the number of wedges you carry x 4. So if you carry 4 wedges you have 16 distances you can cover with varying swing lengths. This sounds complicated but write it down and carry it with you as reference until you can remember it. Don’t guess your distances, know your distances and save shots.
