Welcome to this week's edition. It’s been an incredibly busy last few weeks here at the club, and we’ve lots to cram into this week’s newsletter.
Happy reading! |
Home success in Pro-Am!
Last Sunday saw our annual Charity Pro-Am, which once again was another fantastic event superbly supported by 46 teams and Professionals. John Parr and his team presented the course in wonderful condition, and it was great to see so many Professional’s commenting on how good the greens were.
Congratulations to Exeter members Paul Naden, Jack Moxey and Aaron Lee who along with former Exeter Professional James Maxwell won the team event with a score of 120 (-18). For the home Pro’s, Tom shot a 3 under par 66 to finish in a tie for 6th place. Ryan shot 67 (which he was disappointed with after going out in just 30!) and Darren shot a very steady 70. |
Despite shooting 79 – full credit to Chris for playing his 1st full round of 18 holes since his horrific ankle break back in March. The Professional individual saw a 3 way tie for 1st on 64 (-5) scored by Lee Thompson, David Dixon and Giuseppe Licata.
As always, these events wouldn’t take place without all the sponsors and the hard work of the Pro-Am committee, and we thank them for all their hard work. Club captain Lyndon Bent was delighted in the presentation to hand over an interim cheque to David McGregor from the Neo-Natal unit for £3,000, with a final total to be presented later in the year.

Tom claims County top honours!
Congratulations to Tom Woodhouse on winning the Kashmir Cup Devon Order of Merit event at Royal North Devon shooting rounds of 69 and 73 for a 2 under 142 total in challenging conditions.
Well done Tom! |
Juniors march into final...
Congratulations also must go to the Junior Team of Fred Bishop, Max Parsons and Jack Jeffrey on winning their Basil Steer semi- final at Crediton at the weekend. The final will be played at Bovey Castle on Sunday 16th September at 1.30pm, and it would be great to see as many supporters as possible for the boys! |
Exeter take Victory Bowl
The winning theme continues for Exeter GCC as the men’s team secured the Victory Bowl against Dawlish Warren by 5.5 – 4.5.
Congratulations to the team selectors and all the players, a fantastic mix of youth and experience! |
And not to be outdone!
Congratulations to Dave Newbery and his side on winning the All Mitie Cup against Woodbury Park, with a comprehensive 4-1 victory. |
Real excitement building...
As you may have seen on social media or on the club website, the Topsham Golf Academy had a soft unofficial opening last Friday, with club captains Lyndon Bent and Lyne Beevers both hitting shots. There is real excitement for the official opening which we hope to be only a few weeks away, which will only enhance the coaching experience we can offer for you as a Professional team.
Look out for details coming regarding Ladies and Seniors coffee and group coaching mornings with Tom and Chris, and bespoke individual packages with each team member.

Gapping is vitally important to any golfer. Being able to pick a club out of the bag and knowing exactly how far you can strike the ball will make for more confident shots, as you won’t be constantly wondering if you should club up or club down. |
Not just for wedges Gapping is often associated with the shorter clubs in your bag, but it's just as important to make sure you pay attention to the gaps between your longer clubs, too. Good gapping would see you have equal gaps between clubs that are no bigger than 15 yards, as displayed in the green illustration below. In contrast, bad gapping would leave you with uneven or large distances between clubs, often over 20 yards or under 10. Having equal gaps throughout your bag will mean you are much closer with your next club, so you won’t have to manufacture shorter/longer swings or hit soft/hard shots, which is where a lot of problems begin. |
Being able to know exactly how far each club goes can be even more helpful if you have a GPS device telling you the exact distance between your ball and the pin. So if you're still guessing how far you hit each club, come and speak to a member of the team. We can guarantee it's costing you shots. |
