Great fighting spirit!
The following report is from Lady Captain – Lyne Beevers
Unfortunately East Devon beat us for the second year in a row in the semi finals of the Still Cup. This was played today at Honiton and even though everyone tried their best (for example Gill Whitehead took Evie Stone to the 21st hole before winning), we didn't manage to win the match overall.
The squad have done a fantastic job as we had some excellent matches and wins this year to get us to the semi final, winning 6 out of our 8 matches and winning our division. A big thank you to all of the ladies who have played - I appreciate you giving your time to do so and all of your efforts throughout the matches.
|
Also to all the caddies who have pushed trollies and cajoled or bullied their players around the courses of Devon, and to the ladies (and gentlemen) who came along to support today - it was much appreciated. All it remains for me to do is to wish you all good luck in your challenge again next year where we are drawn against Teignmouth (who we didn't play against this year), Stover and again East Devon. Good luck Ali and once again ladies a huge thank you. |

Following report from Seniors Captain – Mike Comber
The Seniors open was held on September 3rd with great weather and the golf course in superb condition, thanks to the hard work of John Parr and his greens staff. The conditions of the greens in particular drew many unsought for compliments. The catering was also considered a big success again with many compliments being received by the organizers, with comments covering the variety and taste of the meal. The competition itself was fully booked with over 210 competitors entered on the day. The standard of play was good as the winning scores demonstrate, see below, and the event was thoroughly enjoyed especially given the great organization led by Bob Moody who was enjoying his last Open – as organizer! Next year Bob will be playing. His tenure in charge of the Open has been extremely successful and has been a testament to his diligence and hard work. On behalf of the Committee this newsletter records the thanks of the Seniors Committee and the Exeter seniors. Also to be thanked were Geoff Fidler (taking over from Bob as the Open’s organizer in future years), Doug Jeffrey and the Ladies of Exeter Golf & Country Club, who braved all before them and sold tickets for the raffle supporting the Captains charity, Exeter Dementia Action Alliance (see below for a picture of some of the lady volunteers!).
The draw included a £300 XR Speed Callaway driver, for which tickets had been sold far and wide, and the winning ticket was sold on the day to Peter Whatton, shown below with his new weapon! The draw itself raised £558, so many thanks to everyone who bought tickets – and again to Geoff Fidler who organized the purchase of the driver for the draw!

Mixed Open success!
Last Sunday 100 people took part in our mixed open. The day passed as a great success, and it was nice to hear so many visitors complementing the state of the course.
The event was won by Exeter members Colin and Jane Wayman playing with Crediton members Shirley and Peter Stunell with a fantastic score of 91. The Exeter members team of Darren and Sharon Thorpe and Richard and Jackie Harris finished 3rd.

Strong finished for Tom and Ryan!
Both Tom and Ryan have had some very solid results in various Pro-Ams in the last week. Ryan finished 2nd at Woodbury Park on Thursday, with Tom in 6th place, and on Sunday at Crediton Tom finished 2nd with Ryan in 5th Place. Tom also snuck into the top 10 at Oake Manor on Friday. Both of them are also representing the Devon PGA alongside Paul Hendriksen next Wednesday at Newquay golf club; in the West Region inter counties championship. The very best of luck to them and Paul!

Improve your golf with a coffee!
As touched upon in last week’s newsletter, both Chris and Tom will be running both Ladies and Seniors Coffee Mornings down at the Driving Range and new short game area once it officially opens. These will be 1 hour sessions followed by a coffee with a maximum of 8 per group. The crux of the sessions will be focusing on certain key skills of the game, and will be very much group focussed, i.e. we will cover whatever the group wishes to be covered! Dates are still TBC as is cost, however if there is scope for multiple sessions to be run, then we will of course endeavour to run as many sessions as we can at various times. Please feel free to pop into the shop to register an interest with us both, and look out for sign-up sheets which will go up on both the ladies and seniors boards in the coming weeks.
As always, we are all here to help you with your game so don’t hesitate to get a lesson booked in with us.
