Welcome to another exciting edition of our weekly newsletter, we hope you've had a great week on and off the course. This week we will be taking a look at the stars of the future from the junior section, recap last weeks competitions, welcome a new face and much much more. Enjoy the read. |
Basil Steer Success
A massive congratulations to the Junior Basil Steer team of Jack Jeffrey, Fred Bishop and Max Parsons who on Sunday beat East Devon 2-1 in the final at Bovey Castle.
Out first, Fred lost a close game 1 down, but comfortable 5/3 victories for Jack and 6/5 for Max saw the boys home.
Exeter has never won the Basil Steer so this is a historic achievement from the boys! The junior section is incredibly strong at the moment and they are a credit to the club.

A big thanks to Nick Parsons and helpers for all their continued hard work with the junior section.
The junior team play in the East Devon Junior League finals on the 6th October, and we’ll keep you informed with how they get on. Here’s hoping they can do the double!

Club Results
The annual Centenary Trophy was contested at Exeter on Sunday, and congratulations to the Wrangaton team who came out victorious, pipping the Exeter team by just 3 points!
Special mention to Ray Banfield and Geoff Fidler who had the best men’s Exeter score of 45 points, and to Liz Turner and Alison Crooks who had the best ladies Exeter score of 42.
Once again it was fantastic to hear so many positive comments about the state of the course from the visiting teams, and full credit to John and his team for continuing to present the course in such fantastic condition.

The Iddesleigh Cup
Congratulations to Robert Simpson on winning the Iddesleigh cup on Saturday with a superb nett 63. A special mention also to George Robinson and Eliot Baker who both shot gross 66’s (nett 64’s), very impressive! |
A fresh face
As you may have seen online, the Professional Team is expanding, and I am delighted to announce David Cockayne will be joining the team at the end of this month. David is just about to enrol in his 2nd year of PGA training, and join us after spending his 1st year at Tiverton. Please do come and introduce yourselves when he does commence, and I am sure he will make our already strong team even stronger. |

Inter County West Region Championships On Wednesday, both Tom and Ryan were representing the Devon PGA in the Inter County West Region Championships at Newquay alongside Paul Hendriksen. I am delighted to say as a team they won the event and now progress to the PGA National County Finals at the Belfry on the 10th/11th October. Paul shot a 3 over par 72, Ryan a 2 over par 71 and Tom a 4 under par 65 in gusty and very challenging conditions. This gave them a team score of 136, 2 under par (format is best 2 individual scores from 3 to count), which left them tied 1st with Gloucestershire. A sudden death play-off then followed, which Tom won on the 2nd play-off hole against Giuseppe Licata – who some of you will remember won our Pro Am a few weeks back. Congratulations boys, fantastic result and good luck in the final! |

Winter is coming
Keep your eyes peeled in the shop for our end of summer sale, and new Autumn / Winter apparel dropping in the next few weeks. |
Gear up like Team Europe As all eyes turn to next week's Ryder Cup, we thought we'd highlight a special partnership that you might not be aware of. It's pretty safe to say the players will be wrapping up warm when they take to the course in Paris, and one brand that the European Team will be wearing is Galvin Green, their official supplier of weatherwear for this year's event. We stock an extensive range in-store so if you like the look of what you see next week, be sure to pop in to take a look. |

With the Ryder Cup coming up next week, we can expect plenty of tense moments, particularly on the greens. You’ll probably notice that players on both sides will have the ability to hole out under huge amounts of pressure – who can forget Ian Poulter’s clutch putt on the 16th green at Medinah in 2012? |
Find a putter you can trust To replicate these kind of putts, whether that's in the monthly medal or playing for money with your friends, you need to choose a flatstick you can trust. Why not try out one of Scotty Cameron’s Futura putters? The current range involves several high-MOI mallets with tour-proven shapes, as well as improved alignment features and feel. Some of the best players in the world, such as Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, have Scotty putters in the bag, so you can be sure you’ll be in good company. |
