Greetings from Darren Everett
Teign Valley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello golfers,

I hope this finds you well. Well we are now in to November and there is still plenty of golf being played. The course is holding up great and it's just a case now of maybe putting a few more layers on to combat a slight drop in temperature. We have all the golf clothing you will need to keep playing this winter. Pop in and have a look at our winter range of clothing and get dressed for success this winter. We also have an extensive range of accessories such as winter mitts, hand warmers and much more.

Dates for your diary

  • Saturday 8th - 10.00-11.00am - Junior Roll-Up session
  • Sunday 9th - 10.00-11.00am - Junior Elite Squad (Driving)
  • Sunday 9th - 11.00am-12.00pm - Game Improvement session 4 of 4 (On Course) £7.50 per person - open to everyone

As we all know, golf rarely comes easily. Elements, or thoughts we found easy the month before, suddenly become tough to master. A monthly check in lesson is always good to gain new swing thoughts, or feelings as well as checking previous work or for any faults creeping in. Please remember that I am here to coach until 8pm on both Monday and Thursday so if weather or work stops you playing, you can still keep working on your game. Don't let the above stop you improving. I am here to coach mostly every day at times to suit you. You name the time and day. Click here to get in touch about a lesson.

New Coaching Offer

Coaching at the 19th hole - 15 minute lessons for £10!

This new lesson option is perfect to use after a round of golf. To not eat further in to free time this shorter lesson can provide a quick analysis into your game without using too much of your time. This can be perfect if the golfer only wants a small check or subtle change just to be put back on the right path. Book yours today - click here!

The art of the follow through

As we see with all Professional golf athletes on tour, a balanced finish is a position that is never in question. Even Bubba Watson manages to have one. A balanced finish shows that all body parts are working correctly and in unison. It is no mistake that you hit your best shots - be it drivers, irons or wedges, when you can hold that finish.

During the golf swing each body group must speed up and slow down in the correct order to create the best kinetic chain for power. This creates power efficiently. Tips to help you do this are to always swing within yourself - trying to destroy the outer cover will never result in accurate results. Use your feet effectively - press into the ground with your feet and just make sure that no excessive lateral movement takes place. But the biggest one is to forget about those other swing thoughts and just focus on holding that finish. If you cannot hold that finish it is telling you that something is slightly out with the body movements. Next time you are practicing or playing just try that - be amazed at what it does for your strike.

To talk to me about any of the points above, or to work on how to do this consistently with easy techniques pop in and we can discuss it further.

Four Seasons

The Four Seasons Trophy was decided last weekend as round four took place on a blustery day. With the best two scores from a potential four to count, it was very tight going in to the last round. It was set up nicely for someone to burst through the pack. Joel Carnell was that man as he signed for a brilliant gross 70 (nett 65) to post a best two round total of 131. In the end, this was enough to gain victory by two shots over Micky Davis who posted a 133 total. Joel is also at his lowest ever handicap so congrats to him on his achievement.

Joel took top spot in Division One in the medal beating Martyn Eden in to runners-up spot. Ian Lake claimed victory in Division Two as his nett 68 beat Micky Davis on countback. The score of the day, however, was posted by Graham Payne as his superb nett 64 won Division Three with Jon Warren runner-up on nett 68.

Teignagers' Medal

A good field took to the course to compete in the Teignagers' medal. Keith Burgess won Division One with a nett 68, piping Roger Cox by a shot. Division Two's honours were taken by Barry Gribble with runner-up being Barry Lawer.

PING G30 Range

We have PING's latest hardware range in store, the G30 range, which is selling well. If you don't know much about this range, their 'Turbulator' technology is something you really ought to see.

Click here to visit my website where you can see these products as well as watch video tutorials from PING.

Our Price Promise to all our Customers

I take great pride in not only the amount of great product that we stock, but also how competitive our pricing is. I make it one of my weekly tasks to sit down and look at other retailers and compile a list of what price they are selling the products that we stock. Without having to move my pricing I am always sitting there right alongside the best pricing online. The one thing that I can give ALL my customers that the online retailers cannot is face to face advice and service.

We are here seven days a week to help you with all of your enquiries and queries and are the best people qualified to recommend and fit you for correct product. We also offer a complete after sales service package on all items we sell which gives our customers complete piece of mind.

If by any chance anyone finds a product we sell and the price is cheaper than us, then I am more than happy to match that price without compromising on our quality of service. Please feel free to come in to the Pro Shop and chat to us about our services.

Christmas Trolley Dash

I will reveal details next week regarding this year's Christmas Trolley Dash grand draw. Once again we will be offering one lucky winner the chance to run around the Pro Shop for 15 seconds collecting golf goods of their choice. The past two years have seen the lucky winners receive £745 and £580 worth of golfing goods so it really is not be missed in next week's newsletter.

Winter Golf inside this year

As winter approaches it's a good time to remind you of the fantastic indoor facility we have here at the Valley. Our GC2 Simulator and Launch Monitor is state of the art and a fantastic way to keep your golf going this winter. Whether it is through coaching, fitting or just playing on one of the five courses we have you will be able to keep your game sharp over the coming months.

I am currently working on some winter promotions based around the simulator and will add these in to next week's newsletter. We will also be running a competition where someone will win FREE use of the simulator for the winter and we will be reducing the hire cost of playing the simulator at certain times over the winter period. I myself will be sharpening my game up in the warmth of the simulator this winter
