Hello golfers,
I trust you are well and that you have managed a little golf this week. As I write this week's newsletter it has gone a bit colder, especially in the mornings, so it is definitely time to bring out the winter wardrobe and see what's missing.
We are well stocked on all things winter with plenty of bobble hats, winter gloves, base layers and fleeces for both ladies and men. Pop in next time you're at the club and see our winter range.
Trolleys through the winter We have made a decision to keep allowing the use of trolleys through the winter months except in extreme circumstances. This decision was taken with the best interests of our members at heart allowing continued participation through the winter months. However, this can only work if EVERYONE follows the following guidelines:
Keep trolleys a sensible distance from tees and greens
Where possible take trolleys over the driest route even if that means going in to the semi rough
When turning on electric trolleys, turn the speed up slowly to avoid wheel spins
Encourage ALL golfers in ALL sections to adhere to these rules
If all golfers can follow the guidelines then hopefully we can keep trolleys on through winter. The only times where trolleys may be banned will be when:
- The ground is frosty (advisable to carry a stand bag in the car from now on)
- The course is absolutely sodden and damage may be done
Any trolley ban will be decided as soon as possible in the morning. We hope you appreciate our efforts and look forward to seeing you play some winter golf.
Captain and Pro Challenge
Saturday saw Ted and I take on the members in the annual Captain and Pro Challenge. Ted was standing in for Captain Andy who is still out injured. On a day of weather more fitting of summer the scoring was destined to be good and myself and Ted were going to need to play well.
Thankfully, we did and with Ted just popping it down the middle on every hole and with me chipping in a couple of birdies we soon racked up two 2's and 23 points on the front nine. However, we could and maybe should have been 2 or 3 points better and we were made to pay as we struggled in the meadow and stood on the 16th tee six under.
A big finish was needed and right on cue Ted finished with a two on the 17th (courtesy of a great chip in) and a superb par down the last to allow us to sign for a well earned 45 points and set a good target.
As the scores started to flood in it became obvious we would be gaining bragging rights on quite a few pairs. In the end there were only four pairs that managed to beat our score. The winning score and collecting the Captain and Pro Trophy was the pair of Darren Roe and Martyn Eden.
The day was a great success and the Captain's Charity also managed to benefit to the tune of £100. Thank you to all the members who supported the day.
Men's Trophy Presentation
Following the presentation of the Captain and Pro Trophy was the presentation of some of the men's silverware competitions. Well done to Ted and Andy for all their hard work in preparing the trophies and a huge congratulations to all the winners. Here is a little selection of some of the winners collecting their trophies.
With Christmas fast approaching we continue our Christmas gift ideas. This week we feature the awesome Game Golf System.
This is the ideal gift for any golfer keen to improve their golf. It works with sensors that plug in to the end of the grips on your clubs and a little GPS device that you clip on to your belt or have in your pocket. It is that time of year again - it is Christmas Trolley Dash time! Hiring the GC2 Simulator
As winter arrives, it's a good time to remind you of the fantastic indoor facility we have here at the Valley. Our GC2 Simulator and Launch Monitor is state of the art and a fantastic way to keep your golf going this winter. Whether it is through coaching, fitting or just playing on one of the five courses we have you will be able to keep your game sharp over the coming months.
I am currently working on some winter promotions based around the simulator and will add these in to next week's newsletter. We will also be running a competition where someone will win FREE use of the simulator for the winter and we will be reducing the hire cost of playing the simulator at certain times over the winter period. I myself will be sharpening my game up in the warmth of the simulator this winter!
We have devised the following prices to make the most of our great facility.
Play golf on one of five courses - £15 per 60 minutes

Tip of the Week- Balanace
We are well into winter now with the frost appearing in the morning. The slightly wetter ground, cold hands and increased wind really puts an emphasis on the correct strike needed to play anywhere near the summer standard. One thing many of us struggle with is trying to hit the ball too hard - sacrificing technique for that extra 10 yards. A key to consistent golf is being able to make similar swings (not identical, we are not robots) throughout the year.
A very simple drill to be aware of body movement and what muscles you are using is to hit a basket of 20 balls with your feet together. This makes you very aware and conscious of swinging within yourself and in balance. This is the favourite drill of European Tour winner Simon Dyson. Give it a try - you will be amazed how something this simple can make your more aware of your own game and improve that strike.

It is time to wish Chris Como good luck for the upcoming year. Who is he you may well ask? Well Chris has now been appointed the new coach of Tiger Woods. It will be very interesting to see what comes of this new partnership.
Please remember that I can tailor any package to suit your needs. Lessons do not necessarily have to be individual either - if you want a refresher within your golfing group or weekly fourball I can do group sessions starting at as little as £6.00 per person. (Minimum of 4 per group with this price) This can be a fun way of improving together and a way to keep costs down.
