Here in the Pro Shop we have all your golfing Christmas shopping covered. We pride ourselves on our wide range of stock at great prices with first class service. Whatever your gift requirements we can help. If there is someone you require that we don't have in stock then we can access it for you at no extra cost. We are able to offer FREE local delivery up until December 23rd and friends and family can contact us to make purchases over the telephone which we can then deliver or keep them in the Pro Shop for them to collect.
From this weekend you will be able to come in to the Pro Shop and pick up a Christmas wishlist. The idea with this is you fill out on your wish list gift ideas from the Pro Shop and then give your wish list to friends or family. They then contact us here at the Pro Shop and arrange purchase of any chosen items. It's that simple. Support your Pro Shop this Christmas and get the gifts you really want.
Competition Sign Up Online
Starting in the New Year we will be signing up for club competitions either via the scoring terminal located outside the Pro Shop or online via the How Did I Do website. This will make life very simple for all players to enter competitions and saves the written sheets being used in the changing rooms that often end up being messy with crossing out of players etc. For those members who are comfortable on a computer then entering via www.howdidido.co.uk is the best way to do it or for those not so comfortable on computers then they can enter on the scoring terminal. Entry sheets and start times float live on the Internet so there can be no duplicating of times or entry's. Players can then remove themselves from the competition if they cannot play anymore.
If you do not currently use How Did I Do then this is a great time to get involved. By signing up to the How Did I Do website you can see all competition results as well as handicap changes, scoring graphs and much more. This is all a FREE service as well. To start accessing competitions online I need the email address that you sign in to How Did I Do with. This will activate you to start entering the comps online. Please email me at proshop@teignvalleygolf.co.uk if you wish to enter competitions online. We will be using the new system from January but need your email addresses as soon as possible please.
Festive Day
Saturday saw the annual Festive Day take place with a full field taking to the course to compete in a Texas Scramble Team event. On what was a very cold but bright day Jack Frost made an unwanted appearance so unfortunately we had to contend with temporary greens and no trolleys. However everyone set out with the mindset to enjoy their day and the atmosphere both on and off the course was superb.
The scoring was also superb with the winning men's team recording 106 points. The winning mixed team signed for an incredible 110 points. The presentation for Trophy board competitions was made after play where a special presentation was made for our outgoing Chairman Pat Masterson who has done a fantastic job over the past four years.
Ladies' Christmas Lunch
The ladies' section had their annual Christmas Lunch on Tuesday. A good field took to the course for a 9 hole team event before they returned to the clubhouse for lunch and one or two glasses of wine! Some of the ladies got in to the Christmas Spirit and donned some very fetching outfits!

Congratulations & Thanks
A huge thank you must go to my team of Dave Martyr, Micky Davis & Darren Chaplin for providing great company and golf during the 4BBB championships and Yelverton this past Thursday. It was great to get out and play on a crisp winter's morning and take that illusive £5.00 off the opposition. Not mentioning any names but if anyone would like to see a member's signed £5.00 in my wallet they are more than welcome.
Personal News
I apologise for being away from the club for a few days this week but I returned home to get down on one knee and propose to my partner Karla. Luckily she said yes otherwise this would definitely not be going in the newsletter.
Trolleys through the winter
We have made a decision to keep allowing the use of trolleys through the winter months except in extreme circumstances. This decision was taken with the best interests of our members at heart allowing continued participation through the winter months. However this can only work if EVERYONE follows the following guidelines:
Keep trolleys a sensible distance from tees and greens
Where possible take trolleys over the driest route even if that means going in to the semi rough
When turning on electric trolleys turn the speed up slowly to avoid wheel spins
Encourage ALL golfers in ALL sections to adhere to these rules
If all golfers can follow the guidelines then hopefully we can keep trolleys on through winter. The only times where trolleys may be banned will be when:
Any trolley ban will be decided as soon as possible in the morning. We hope you appreciate our efforts and look forward to seeing you play some winter golf.
Christmas Trolley Dash
It is that time of year again - it is Christmas Trolley Dash time! Once again we willl be offering one lucky winner the chance to run around the Pro Shop for 15 seconds collecting golf goods of their choice. The past two years have seen the lucky winners receive £745 and £580 worth of golfing goods so it really is not be missed. Tickets are now on sale in the Pro Shop!
Hiring the GC2 Simulator
As winter arrives, it's a good time to remind you of the fantastic indoor facility we have here at the Valley. Our GC2 Simulator and Launch Monitor is state of the art and a fantastic way to keep your golf going this winter. Whether it is through coaching, fitting or just playing on one of the five courses we have you will be able to keep your game sharp over the coming months.
I am currently working on some winter promotions based around the simulator and will add these in to next week's newsletter. We will also be running a competition where someone will win FREE use of the simulator for the winter and we will be reducing the hire cost of playing the simulator at certain times over the winter period. I myself will be sharpening my game up in the warmth of the simulator this winter!
We have devised the following prices to make the most of our great facility.
Play golf on one of five courses - £15 per 60 minutes
(split the cost between a maximum of four players)
Hire the Simulator for practice - £6.50 for 30 minutes

James' Tip of the Week - Nutrition
This is one subject I have been toying with writing about for a few weeks now. The trouble is when anyone mentions nutrition and how it may positively affect performance golfers glaze over and nod accordingly.
HOWEVER - just small tips may help you in those last 5 holes turn the regular 5-7 points into 8-10. Surely, that is an increase no-one can turn down. This isn't a barrage prying into your lives telling you to not eat that burger, or that the next glass of red wine is a bad choice - but more of simple provisions to consider to help the blood sugar level not spike, or hugely dip and the energy levels stay high during the round.
During a regular round of golf people carrying their bags can burn up to 1300 calories, not my opinion but fact. Bringing some cereal bars, nuts, fruit and the likes of are great munching tools to keep that energy level up. Keeping the energy level up helps the brain make good course decisions, and the muscles making good swings. PGA Tour players are well known for their 'peanut butter & Jelly' sandwiches on brown bread, me I go for chocolate and nut spread on brown but each to their own. Likewise with drinks a good mix of sport lucozade and water can make sure the body refuels and replaces levels lost during the round. Is it any co-incidence that you do not see Professional golfers swigging from a 2 litre Coke bottle during the round? I hope you know the answer to that.
