Hello golfers,
May I start but wishing you all a very happy New Year! I hope you all had a brilliant festive period and you were all on Santa's good list? Well compared to last year, the weather stayed pretty kind to us allowing plenty of you to take to the course and walk off any over indulgence you may have had over Christmas. Now we have packed away the Christmas decorations we concentrate on up and coming events at the club.
I thought I would share a few pictures to show you how much I love Christmas! Although our Christmas break is short and sweet I had a couple of great days with friends & family and really got in to the Christmas spirit! ......as you can see above!
Our January SALE is now on in the Pro Shop. With great savings on clubs, bags, shoes and clothing be quick to come and grab some bargains before they are snapped up!
Members' Accounts
Due to a restructure in my business accounting system, there will be a new structure to your Members' Acounts in the Pro Shop. From the 1st of February 2015 you will receive any Pro Shop credit you may have left in the form of a voucher which will be valid for six months. As the voucher is issued your Pro Shop account balance will be set back to zero.
From February 2nd 2015 any money put in to your Pro Shop account will stay there and can be used as normal until 31st December 2015 when again any Pro Shop credit you have left will be issued to you as a voucher which will be valid for 6 months and again your Pro Shop account will be set back to zero. This will then be the process going forward. I hope this makes sense to you all and if you have any queries then please feel free to contact me here or come and speak to me in the Pro Shop.

Men's Dovetail
Saturday saw the men play their first competition of the new year as they took to the course to compete in a dovetail format. Playing in pairs, the players played a betterball format with a difference. Each pair had to score on the card 9 times each and had decide whose score counted on the completion of each hole. Returning the winning score with a brilliant 50 points was Chris Greenslade and Anthony Ford ahead of runners-up Tom Sheffield and Steve Riley.
Tip of the Week - Soft greens, soft landing chip shot
A happy New Year to all of you as we are welcoming a pretty mild January bar a few frosty mornings. With the greens still very receptive it presents a great opportunity to fly chip shots at the hole and be more aggressive than normal. This is not to say you have to hit every shot like a flop shot however the most lofted wedge could be used to fly the ball around the hole.
Technically, this isn't too dissimilar to any other chip shot. Weight should be more on the left side than right, ball position just forward of middle, hands slightly leading and the left foot/hip slightly withdrawn. However, to create that elusive 'check'/control this shot should be played aggressively with a good amount of clubhead speed. The blade should be able to slide under and slightly across the ball.
A good tip for playing this shot is to try and maintain the exact same club loft as you started with whilst the club exits slightly left of the target. The above, with slightly hitting down on the ball, should present a higher, more spinning, chip to give you maximum confidence and control. If you cannot get any control on chip/pitch shots this may show there is something wrong with technique, ball choice, or the club you are using.
Please have a go or come in and chat to me about any of the above.
New voucher packages are now in place to emulate the offers during the Christmas period. Posters should be up in the changing rooms and remember I can tailor any vouchers to suit all needs.

Customer Testimonial
"After playing golf for two years, and never having a lesson and being self-taught, I joined Teign Valley Golf Club. After a few months I approached James for a lesson as I was scared of using my driver due to not knowing which fairway or tree I would hit. James was very approachable, friendly and extremely helpful. I came away from the lesson with a new driver which I felt very confident playing with and some good ideas of how to improve my game. I have played a few rounds since and have seen my confidence and my whole game improve leaps and bounds and all this from one lesson".
