Greetings from Darren Everett
Teign Valley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello golfers, I hope this finds you well and that you have braved the cold this week to play some golf! We have had some stunning mornings here at the Valley this week even if it has been a bit chilly! Just a little reminder to make sure you put a carry bag in the car with you as the weather remains cold as it is likely that we may have to start the morning with no trolleys if it is frosty.

I have been very busy again this week as I continue to plan initiatives for this coming year which will give all of you some great opportunities to try new product and improve your game. I do have a couple of definite dates for some great events this year which I will detail further on in the newsletter.

I was lucky enough this week to pay a visit to Anfield to watch my beloved Liverpool play Chelsea in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg.

I took Leah for her first Anfield experience and after a 7 hour journey, due to accidents on the motorways, we got there right on kick off time. It was, as usual, a superb atmosphere and the red men were unlucky not to take an advantage to Stamford Bridge next week. 1-1 means it's all to play for though!

Due to temporary greens and frost we unfortunately had to cancel the first round of the Four Seasons on Saturday. This has now been rearranged for Saturday, 14 February. Any player looking to play will need to re-sign up either on the terminal outside the Pro Shop or via howdidido. More and more of you are taking advantage of the ability to sign up for competitions online. For those who are still yet to go down this route it is important to get your howdidido account verified before being able to access this. Please contact me in the Pro Shop if you need help to set this up.

A roll-up Stableford was played instead on Saturday with a decent field taking to the course. Despite temporary greens the scoring was brilliant! Paul Lock took Division 1 honours with a superb 43 points, with Mike Malone going slightly better in winning Division 2 with 44 points.

I am very excited about the year ahead as for many reasons I feel this could be the most exciting year yet. On an equipment front, it looks like this could be the best year for a while as far as the quality technology and choice of equipment we have to offer. There is also going to be a full programme of initiatives that myself and the team will be laying on for you throughout the season. I will be keeping you up to date with further details on these as well as dates but at the moment I can confirm the following:

Nike Experience Day - Sunday, 26 April

On the back of last year's hugely successful day, we will once again be giving you all a superb day in conjunction with Nike Golf. With the impending launch of the fantastic Vapor range of products, there will be the opportunity to come along and try product under the watchful eye of Nike Tour Technicians. There will also be a fourball competition run on the day with prizes to the best teams as well as a special Nike nearest the pin and long drive challenge. Keep reading the newsletter in the coming weeks for more details.

Titleist Product Day - Saturday, 27 June

A new initiative for this year is a Titleist Product Day. This will involve a Titleist fitting expert coming along to let customers try the Titleist product and have the opportunity to be expertly fitted. We will be running a special Titleist nearest-the-pin and longest drive challenge on the day. Keep reading the newsletter in the coming weeks for more details.

There will also be many more events scheduled and I will release details of these as soon as I have more details.

At the end of the season I always take the time to sit down and review my business year with a view to my stocking options for the coming year. It is always good to look at different companies to see if I think I can bring something different to the Pro Shop that customers will like. This is the main reason I go to the annual Trade Show at Harrogate each year. This season, I have decided to bring in both Cobra and Puma. My reason behind this decision was based upon many things, including the following:

  • Great range of products
  • Great prices
  • Superb value for money
  • Excellent custom fitting options
  • Superb after sales service and support

I feel that these are strong reasons for stocking the products and now cannot wait to have them delivered in to store for you all to see.

This week we have taken delivery of a superb new colour in the FootJoy DNA shoe! It really is striking and makes what already is a fantastic golf shoe even more appealing. I have also had delivered the Titleist 915 range of drivers, fairways and rescues and have demos available to try and be fitted with.

For more information or to arrange a fitting please come and see us in the Pro Shop or get in touch here.

Do you know how far you hit each club? Having a rough estimate of this can massively help your game. Having a precise knowledge can prove invaluable. How many times a round do you miss a green short by guessing how far you hit each club? Presuming they all have the same spacing in terms of yardage is in my eyes a mistake.

Gap testing or pacing them out with your PGA professional should be a 45 minute appointment that you cannot live without. Yardages change with clubs, swing, season - give yourself the best chance to play better golf. To speak to me about the above or for a lesson to work on the above speak to me at any point.

NEW Coaching Offers - Don't miss out!

February Game Improvement sessions - Perfect for golfers of all levels - have fun in a group. Sessions will run every Sunday in February (1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd) between 10.00am-11.00am and cost just £7.5 0 PP. These sessions will cover all elements of the swing. Posters are up around the club and a sign-up sheet in the Pro Shop.
