Greetings from Darren Everett
Teign Valley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello golfers,

I hope this finds you well and you are managing to stay warm with the cold front currently hovering over us. If taking to the course in the colder weather please don't forget the essentials needed. Find out what these are later in this week's newsletter. We have been busy in the shop this week as this season's new products get delivered. This week's new arrivals include the eagerly awaited Nike Vapor range, Puma shoes and Titleist balls. Come and take a look at the new stock and find out what else will be arriving.

Men's Stableford - Tony Potter was star man in Division One as his 40 points took top spot. Rich Aggett was runner-up on 37 points. Division Two was won by Roger Carpenter with 36 points, two ahead of Mick Davis in second. Matt Blackwell's 40 points won Division Three was good enough to win by two from Gary Heyworth.

Teignagers Stableford - Scoring was good as Dave Shipp recorded 43 points to win Division One from Ted Ridgewell on 40 points. Division Two was very tight as Colin Cake signed for 43 points with runner-up Tony Martin prevailing on count back.

Know how far you hit the ball

Many golfers I play with have no idea what yardage they have left in to any green. Their club selection is based upon guess work which they may get away with it to an extent as they become familiar with their own course, but when they go elsewhere they struggle to get their club selection right. A GPS watch is the perfect way to get a accurate yardage on every shot you play. It displays a yardage to the front, middle and back of any green thus giving you the opportunity to select the correct club needed to cover the required distance. The SkyCaddie GPS watch is a fantastic product and is in stock in the pro shop. We have a demo watch available for you to take to the course and try.

Find your numbers

Working in conjunction with a GPS device, it is vital that you know how far you hit each club. Using our GC2 launch monitor we can help you to understand how far you hit each club. We can help you perform a gap test which works out the average carry and total distance you hit each of your clubs vital information for the golf course. An example of this would be your GPS device showing 132 yards to go and you knowing your 8-iron goes 135 would be a pretty good club selection. To book your fitting please contact the pro shop or get in touch here.

Our GC2 Launch Monitor and Simulator

As your PGA Professional, I pride myself in giving you the best service possible. When it comes to coaching and custom fitting I have the perfect tool to help you get the most out of your sessions. The GC2 simulator and launch monitor is the market leader when it comes to club and ball data, both crucial when coaching and fitting. By looking at stats like club head speed, launch angle and spin rates, I can help suggest technique improvements as well as fit you with any club to best suit your game. We are lucky to have such a great tool at our disposal and it's simple but effective results make it clear for any golfer to see what has happened. Please contact me at the pro shop to book a fitting or a lesson using the GC2 or get in touch here.

We will trade-in your old irons

As the new golfing season approaches many of you will be thinking about treating yourselves to some new irons. Please remember that as your PGA Club Professiona,l I am the most qualified person to help you find the correct set of irons for you. With the aid of our GC2 launch monitor, I can give you the ultimate custom fit experience to make sure that we are fitting you correctly for your new clubs. We will look at elements such as shaft length and flex, grip size, lie angle and lofts to try to get the most out of your game.

The bonus for you as the customer is that all this comes FREE if you make a purchase on what you have been fitted for. We also offer a FREE 3 month check up so we can make sure that you are totally happy with your purchase.

To help with the cost of your new clubs we offer a trade-in on your old clubs. The price we offer depends on the age and condition of the clubs but we are more than happy to discuss this with you. So if you've been thinking of treating yourself then now is a great time to pop in to the pro shop and talk to us about a custom fitting.

Demo testers

We are pretty close now to having our full stock of demo products for this year's hardware range. I have a list of members who are keen to come along and test new products for us and then give a product review that we can then use in the newsletter to give all our readers an insightful review of each product. We can still take on a few more of you to be part of our testing team so if you fancy having a try with some of the latest products then please contact me here.

Dressed for success

Playing winter golf can become easier if you are prepared to combat the weather. Most golfers struggle due to the fact they don't carry the correct equipment for winter golf. So what is the correct equipment to combat wet and cold?

Wet - A good set of waterproofs, an umbrella, rain gloves, spare gloves, cap or rain hat and spare towels.
Cold - Beanie, base layer, fleece, waterproofs, winter gloves, winter mitts and heat pads.

Follow this guide and play better this winter!

In an age where social media is a big part of our lives, I can keep you up to date with what is going on in and around the club and pro shop. Follow me on Facebook at Darren Everett Pro Golf and on Twitter @dceverettpgapro. There will opportunities to access great deals and win prizes via social media this season so follow me now and find out how.

Now I was going to discuss the golf of Tiger Woods this week - however let's keep it short. When you believe you are having an awful day on the course just remember that Tiger has finished last in his last two tournaments with one including his very own. Uneven lies are something that all golfers have to deal with no matter how subtle. But as you well know, we at Teign Valley are blessed with some very tricky ones.

From a ball below feet lie, the ball will have a slightly lower flight and tend to shape from left-to-right in the air. Due to this, before contemplating anything, a more lofted club should be used and an aim taken of slightly more left.

Now set up should be taken as normal and just adapted with the slope. No strange weight shift should take place. Due to the slopes characteristics the weight will go towards the toes more and the club slightly further away due to outstretched arms. Knee flex is very important to keep constant. To adapt to the slope very simply grip the golf club slightly higher on the grip. This will enable you to create a greater arc and counteract the slope. This greater arc will also help to a potential of more distance and why a more lofted club can be a good play.

To talk to me about this concept or to book an on course lesson come in at anytime.
