That feeling is starting to come as we see the evenings get lighter, the clock change gets closer and the talk of the season's first major intensifies. There is a real buzz around the Club at the moment with the course playing well and the weather starting to change we are seeing some really strong numbers entering the Club competitions. There is also a very healthy number of casual golfers who just choose to play for fun and they are just as important to the structure of the club. It all bodes well for another successful golfing season here at the Valley.

FREE Club MOT
For all our customers we are offering you the opportunity to have a FREE MOT check on your equipment. We will check the loft and lies on your irons and all the grips on your whole set. We will then give you a report on our findings and will recommend any alterations that may need to be done which you can then choose to act on. Believe it or not the lofts and lies on your irons can move through playing so it is crucial to have these checked as you can easily lose distance or direction through poor lofts and lies.
All you need to do is come in to the pro shop and let us take care of the rest.

A question we often get asked is "which driver should I be using?". This may sound like a question we could answer fairly easily so when we often answer "I don't know" it can meet with a quizzical look.
The reason we cant always give a straight suggestion of what driver might suit is purely based upon the fact that there are so many characteristics to take in to account when making a correct suggestion such as a golfers club head speed, the flight they hit the ball on, the shape of their shots and much more. The only way we can do this effectively is to try different driver combinations with the golfer on our GC2 Simulator. This gives us pure data to allow us to make the correct recommendation. There are some fantastic drivers out on the market this season and we have access to them all with a substantial amount of custom fitting and demo product available to help set you up with the correct driver. As well as being an invaluable process to go through it is also a fun process and one that anyone who struggles for consistency off the tee. Now it is true that great putting wins tournaments, however bad driving doesn't even let you get a foot in the door. You can be the best putter in the world however an inability to get off the tee will render your putting nowhere near as useful.
Driving normally utilises the fastest swing in the bag and arguably the only main swing that requires you to ideally not hit down on the ball. Due to this ball position should be more forward than any club in the bag, a slightly wider stance and no shaft lean at address. This will hopefully get your low point in the arc slightly behind the ball helping you to transfer as much energy as possible through impact hitting the ball on the up.
A mix of hitting up as far as you can and still hitting fairways is what is desired. This is where our GC2 HMT and my knowledge can provide instant feedback and tools to help you create the perfect combination. To talk to me about this concept or to book a lesson come in at anytime.

Men's Medal - Once again a good field took to the course to contest the men's medal last weekend. Ted Ridgewell was star man in Division One as he recorded an excellent nett 65. Runner-up was Jason Morris with a nett 68. Another left-hander, Tom Duncan topped Division Two as his nett 68 finished in pole position. Mark Hooper, Matt Doonan and Ian Couper all signed for net 70's. Division Three's scoring was also superb as Nick Crout won with a nett 65 pipping Bob Read by a single shot.
Teignagers' Medal - Ted Ridgewell continued his fine run of form as his brilliant nett 63 topped Division One in the Teignagers' medal. A nett 67 from Keith Samler took the runners-up spot. Division Two was won by Noel Lowe with a nett 71 pipping Courtney Wright on countback.
