Greetings from Darren Everett
Teign Valley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello Golfers,

I hope this finds you well and you have managed to play some golf this week. We have a busy period coming up at the club with The Anniversary Cup in a few weeks' time followed by the Club Championships and then of course our annual Pro-Am and PGA Fourball event. Before all this kicks off I am taking Leah on a very belated honeymoon. I think having got married last August we are probably over due! I am leaving on Sunday and will be away until the 21st May. In my absence James and Chris will be holding the fort so if you have any questions or queries then please ask for their help.

Myself and James both took a team of ladies from the club to participate in the Ladies Pro-Am at Exeter Golf Club on Wednesday.

On a day of very strong wind and squally showers, it was likely to be difficult to post a good score. James didn't find that task too hard however as a brilliant three under par round set a target that nobody got near all day. His four shot win in the individual event was very impressive. His team of Kim Paley, Carol Wilson and Vivienne Landau also played very well and finished in runners-up spot. My team was made up of Maggie Thomson, Sally Balchin and Jo Horton. We had a brilliant time and had great fun on the course but unfortunately we left our best golf in the clubhouse! We did however very much enjoy the tea and cake half way round, so as I always say take your positives! On behalf of myself and James we would like to thank the ladies for their support and company on the day.

I wrote a piece in last week's newsletter about how I was opening up to take volunteers to be my Game Improvement Champion. The response has been over whelming with 53 golfers putting their names forward to be considered. There is still time to be selected as I am looking to make the decision on Saturday with work commencing with my chosen pupil when I return from honeymoon.

For those that missed last week's newsletter, I am looking for volunteers to put their name forward to work extensively with me over an eight week period. The idea is we undertake lessons, check equipment, give a full custom fitting, a ball fitting and a gap testing with a view to seeing how much we can progress your game over that period. It's a challenge I have always wanted to undertake and a great opportunity for someone to take advantage of my 21 years as a PGA Professional. The cost involved to the lucky candidate is minimal, it is more time I need them to commit to as we need to get together at least once a week and they need to be able to dedicate time to practice.

Each week in the newsletter I will be updating you on our progress and the chosen golfer will also be writing a few lines about how they feel they are progressing. Click here to let me know if you would like to be considered if you haven't already! I look forward to announcing the lucky golfer!

Our annual Pro-Am is only six weeks away and we are keen to get as many members playing as possible. The event has been a brilliant success the past few years with an average of 36 teams being paired up with a top West Region Professional to play in a team event. The Pro-Am precedes our annual West Region PGA Fourball Championships where the region's top Professionals battle in a fourball pairs competition.

The Pro-Am takes place on Tuesday, 16 June and is open to members and non-members and there are sponsorship opportunites also available. The cost is £180 per team of three amateurs which includes bacon baps and coffee on arrival, 18 holes with a professional playing in a team event followed by a two-course meal and a superb prize table. We can allocate you a professional to play with. Entry forms can be picked up from the pro shop and it is advised that you get your team entry in quickly as spaces will fill fast.

Mickey's The Man - Congratulations to Micky Davis who recently won the Regional Final in the Railway Associations Championships. He now progresses to the National Final in July up in Crewe. Good luck, Micky.

A Team - The A Team played Thurlestone at home in the Dartmoor League on Saturday. In wet and windy conditions it was going to be a battle to win matches with the end result finishing 3.5-1.5 in favour of the visitors.

Ladies Stableford - The ladies defied a strong wind to contest their monthly stableford. Division One was won by Maggie Thomson with 34 points on countback from Sally Balchin. Division Two was won by Fiona Carpenter with 35 points, one ahead of runner-up Vivienne Landau. Carol Davies won Division Three with 36 points just pipping Pauline Robinson.

Midweek Stableford - Ben Coggavin won the midweek stableford by retrurning 40 points and beating Dan Willatt on countback. Both players earned a handicap cut in the process.

Ted and myself are looking for challengers to take us on in a series of challenge matches. The format will be pairs betterball stableford The cost is £10 per pair but if any pairs beat us they will receive a sleeve of three balls. At the end of the series of matches, the pair with the best stableford points will play alongside myself and Ted in a regional Pro-Am at no cost to the players.

There is a list of dates in the changing rooms but if you would like to contact us with a date and time of your own then we will try our very best to squeeze it in to our diarys. Pairs can be made up of any combination and the matches will be played from the red and white tees. We look forward to playing with you.
