Greetings from Darren Everett
Teign Valley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello golfers,

I trust you are all managing to get out on to the course and play some golf? We have the weather to do it, the lighter evenings are soon upon us and the golf course is in excellent condition. This all bodes well for a busy few weeks coming up at the club. We should be back on to grass tees in about 10 days time which is always a great sign. Keep reading the newsletter regarding up coming events at the club and also about our continued Pro Shop initiatives which start this week with our " Loft Up" challenge day.

A big field took to the course for Saturdays Stableford competition and it was to be mostly left handers who took the spoils. On a nice day but with a bit of a testing wind it was going to interesting to see what the scoring would be like. In Division 1 it was a lefty man in form Tom Sheffield who took top spot as he recorded 40pts to beat Stuart Daw in to runners up spot by a point. Rich Aggett won Division 2 with an excellent 41pts with count back securing victory over another leftie in Tom Duncan. 41pts was also the winning score in Division 3 with Steve Partridge also needing countback to separate him from Chris Jelley.

Teignagers vs Warren

The Teignagers played their first away game of the season when they travelled to Dawlish Warren on Friday. On a course where local knowledge is a big advantage the home side took the honours although the pairing of Dave Stevens and Len Thomas did manage to squeak a half.

Serena Skinner was the winner of the Ladies Rabbit Trophy. On a nice day but with a testing wind Serena kept her score together to record her win.

Mixed Section

The Mixed team also made the journey to the Warren on Sunday. In strong winds it was tough going and again the home side made home advantage count as they secured the win although Roger and Fiona Carpenter did record a win for Teign Valley.

Junior Competition

The juniors played a Stableford on Sunday morning. In fairly windy conditions it took count back to separate the winner Harry Pierce from the Runner Up Liam Hanslip who both recorded 34pts.

Devon vs Rest of The World

Sunday sees the playing of the annual Devon vs The Rest of The World Trophy. This is open to all sections and is played in a team format with pairs from each team going head to head with opposing players to play Matchplay. The team with the most points wins the trophy and the bragging rights. Last years match was a tie so I'm sure this years will be eagerly contested.

The sign up sheet is on the Mixed board and you sign up for Devon if that's where you were born or the Rest of The World if not.

I am currently in need of a few more players for the Devon team so if you can/want to play then please contact me at the Pro Shop.

Mark Harris

I just wanted to say thank you for your advice and help whilst I recently changed my irons. During the period of bad weather I took advantage and made the most of the Simulator to try a selection of your demo clubs. After a couple of demo sessions I narrowed the options down to a couple of irons which I felt comfortable with. You then took me up in to the studio for a fitting and between the data from the simulator and your expert knowledge we set about finding the correct and best fit for me. You explained what the data meant and how one club may benefit me over the other. I'm so glad we did this because I am sure I would have made the wrong decision without your help. In the end we went for the Ping i25 irons which turned out to be cheaper which is proof ( not that it was needed) that you were only interested in helping to improve my game and not your profits. I would seriously recommend anyone of any handicap who is thinking of purchasing new clubs to take advantage of this FREE service you offer. Now it's up to me to reproduce the results on the course.

Many thanks Daz,

We will trade in your old irons

As the new golfing season approaches many of you will be thinking about treating yourselves to some new irons. Please remember that as your PGA Club Professional I am the most qualified person to help you find the correct set of irons for you. With the aid of our GC2 launch monitor I can give you the ultimate custom fit experience to make sure that we are fitting you correctly for your new clubs. We will look at elements such as shaft length and flex, grip size, lie angle and lofts to try to get the most out of your game. The bonus for you as the customer is that all this comes FREE if you make a purchase on what you have been fitted for. We also offer a FREE 3 month check up so we can make sure that you are totally happy with your purchase. To help with the cost of your new clubs we offer a trade in on your old clubs. The price we offer depends on the age and condition of the clubs but we are more than happy to discuss this with you.

So if you've been thinking of treating yourself then now is a great time to pop in to the pro shop and talk to us about a custom fitting.

Our GC2 Launch Monitor and Simulator

As your PGA Professional I pride myself in giving you the best service possible. When it comes to coaching and custom fitting I have the perfect tool to help you get the most out of your sessions. The GC2 simulator and launch monitor is the market leader when it comes to club and ball data, both crucial when coaching and fitting. By looking at stats like club head speed, launch angle and spin rates I can help suggest technique improvements as well as fit you with any club to best suit your game. We are lucky to have such a great tool at our disposal and it's simple but effective results make it clear for any golfer to see what has happened.

Please contact me at the pro shop to book a fitting or a lesson using the GC2 or click here.

Old shoes can be just as costly as wrong equipment

Worn golf shoes are dangerous, quite literally. Not only do you risk taking a tumble with tatty shoes, but with balance compromised, what chance does your swing have? You could be nicely fitted for the best clubs but with traction a problem that could all be in vain.
