I hope this finds you well and you have been managing to play some golf this past week or so. And so we approach the years 3rd major as The Open at St Andrews which takes place next week. Rather than all the talk being centred around Jordan Spieth search for the 3rd leg of the Grand Slam the centre of attention falls squarely on the shoulders of the World No1 Rory McIlroy who has withdrawn from the event after sustaining a ruptured ankle ligament playing 5 a side football with friends! Many question his decision to do something so risky and others say that he needs to do something to relax away from golf. I sit in both camps. I agree he needs to relax in whatever way he feels he wants to but I do question the timing of it! The week before a major he really should be wrapping himself up in cotton wool and just concentrate on his preparation. Anyway I'm sure he will learn from the experience and act a bit differently in future.
Apologies
I need to start this week by apologising to Brian Tozer for missing out the Teignagers Stableford last week. Brian recorded a brilliant 40pts to win division 2 and receive a handicap cut. Sorry and well done Brian. Congratulations also to Tom Duncan Senior for winning division 1 with an excellent 39pts.
