Hello golfers,
So another week has passed and what a brilliant week it has been…..apart from the rugby!!...unless your welsh of course! As disappointing as the result Saturday was it makes this weekends match against Australia even bigger!
England simply have to win that game so it should make for an exciting evening. For once I watched match of the day this week as my beloved Liverpool actually won a game!! It could be back to doom and gloom this week though as they face a tough trip to Mersey rivals Everton. It was also an exciting week in the golfing world with the Fed Ex Cup decided, as you can read about below.
Good luck to anyone playing this weekend and don't forget to let me know of any notable golfing achievements that I may be able to include in a future newsletter.
Jordan Cashes In!
Well I think it was fair to say that Jordan Speith quite literally cashed in on a bumper season last weekend! By winning the end of season Tour Championship he secured the 10 million dollar bonus for winning the Fed Ex Cup title.
That was his 5th victory of the season which has included his first 2 major championships the US Masters and the US Open. He also narrowly missed out on winning the Open Championship and the USPGA, a quite incredible year and all at the age of 22! So what is the key to his success?
Well I don't think he actually has a weakness in all honestly, and I guess you cant to have the year he has.
Undoubtedly his 2 stand out strengths however would be his mental strength and his putting. I have never seen anyone hole so many distance putts as he does on a regular basis, its quite staggering to watch. He also comes across as a really nice guy which endears him to the public. Golf looks in pretty safe hands when you consider that there is also Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson on the scene. I'm looking forward to the 2016 season already!
Do You Fancy Some Competitive Winter Golf?

The format is either Pro-am (1 pro and 1 amateur) or Am-Am (2 amateurs). The scoring is better ball pairs stableford and amateurs play off ¾ handicap allowance. These really are fun days out and are generally run every other Thursday at a variety of courses throughout Devon including Saunton, East Devon and Yelverton. The cost of the days are £40 to include 18 holes, 2's sweep, a meal after play and prizes. If you are interested in joining us for some winter golf then please contact one of us in the pro shop.

Four Player Team Open
Saturday saw the staging of our Four Player Team Open. 168 players from around 32 different clubs competed in a team event with 2 scores to count in a stableford format. On a day of lovely weather it was always going to be interesting to see what the scoring would be like. In the end the 2nd group of the day set the winning score as Stuart Goodenough, Jason Kinsman, Jon Martin and Ben Coggavin recorded 88 points to win by 1 point. Runners up were Karen Major, Geoff Garrett, Tom Sheffield and Ted Ridgewell. £250 was raised via a raffle to go towards the captains charity.

Srixon Ball Fitting Day
On Tuesday we held a Srixon ball fitting day in the golf studio. A ball fitting expert was on hand to help customers become familiar with what type of ball they should be using to best maximise their performance. It was a very enlightening experience for most golfers who took part. Their were gains in ball speed as well as improved spin rates and most importantly all golfers added distances to their shots by playing with the correct type of ball to suit their game. We are able to offer customers the ball fitting experience with all brands of golf ball so if this is something you would like to do then please contact the Pro Shop.
Get out of the trees
One this week for the approaching winter golf and tough troubles shots we may face. If indeed under any trees, or needing to hit a very low shot we can make sure we are doing it correctly.
Firstly, choose a club with much less loft than normal - a 5-7 iron is normally a good start. Feet want to be narrow (to narrow backswing) and ball position in the middle/more towards the back foot. The handle wants to be in front of the club. These factors reduce the dynamic loft of the club and hopefully stop you from trying to smash it. The follow through should be curtailed and a point on the fairway picked out for aim.
The last little factor is do not take your eye off the ball. focus on good contact knowing you are in the right position.
Please be aware that the main days I will be coaching are; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday. 8.00am - 8.00pm
Sessions can be booked on other days if possible, and talked about with me advance. I will notify of any changes to the days when needed. Please click here to get in contact.
Get Fit for The New Taylormade M1
We now have the fitting components for the new Taylormade M1 product. The driver has been out on the tour for a few weeks now most notably in the hands of Jason Day who has seen some serious gains since putting in the bag.
I have gone through a vigorous testing session with both the 460 and 430 heads and have been mightily impressed with the results.
The head shape looks classical and the Graphite crown looks impressive when you set it behind the ball.
Starting with both in a neutral setting it was interesting to see that by tweaking with the driver head set up such as lofts and weight positions I managed to change the data I got off the launch monitor significantly.
It just shows you how important custom fitting is to ALL golfers. We had another example this week with a customer trying the M1 and again by setting it to suit his swing characteristics managed to reduce his spin and in turn hit the ball much straighter and a lot further than with his current driver.
The New Taylormade M1 is available for custom fitting and for pre-order ahead of its official launch date of October 8th.
