Greetings from Darren Everett
Teign Valley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello golfers,

I hope this finds you all well and you've managed to stride the fairways this week. If you have then you will have noticed a change in the temperature either end of the day. Thankfully the weather at the moment remains largely dry and the course is still playing really well which bodes well as we approach our winter golf season. Life at the Club has been busy and we will still have lots to look forward to as we come to the last quarter of 2015.

Staff news

Welcome aboard, Chris

Some great news from the pro shop team as I can proudly announce that Chris has now turned Professional. He has had confirmation from the PGA that he no longer has an amateur status and has signed his Professional contract and now begins three years of training to become a fully qualified PGA Golf Professional. I will be mentoring Chris throughout his training and am excited at the prospect, as it will be my first time training someone to become a fully qualified Professional. The training Chris will go through involves lots of different elements to Professional golf including coaching, playing, club repairs, business management, health and fitness and much more. We will keep you updated with the progress Chris makes through his training but in the meantime please pop in to the shop and give him your best wishes.

Welcome back, Tom

It gives me great pleasure to let you know that we now have our previous Chef Tom working back at the Valley. Tom was our Chef for a few years when we had the hotel and only left because the hotel burnt down two years ago. Now with the hotel re-build on the horizon, we welcome Tom back in to the kitchen ready to produce some of his famous and tasty dishes. Tom will be implementing a new menu and is very keen to get Sunday roasts up and running. He is also looking at putting cream teas on the menu. It would be great to see as many of you as possible taking the time to come up to the clubhouse to sample some of Tom's cooking whether it would be after a game of golf or just coming up with family and friends.

Shop news

A new career move?

For those of you that haven't seen it yet, here is a link to a light-hearted video Chris and I made promoting the new Nike Hyperadapt waterproof jacket.

It was great fun filming it and it only took one take but I'm not sure I'm quite ready for Hollywood just yet!

Assistants news

Tee height

I often get asked what is the correct tee height for a driver. This will depend on each person as we are looking to optimize the potential maximum distance available by hitting up on the ball as much as possible without sacrificing accuracy by trying to do so too much. The use of our GC2 HMT system helps work on the best angle of angle helped by tee height. This can be crucial to hitting fairways and hitting long drives. On the other hand this can show why the wrong tee height can affect those par 3-iron shots.

Please be aware that the main days I will be coaching are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday between 8.00am - 8.00pm. Sessions can be booked on other days if possible, and talked about with me advance. I will notify of any changes to the days when needed.

Coaching deal - 2 x 45 minute sessions - £45.00 limited offer
Notes - Junior sessions start this Saturday, 17 October between 9am - 12noon. See you there!

Competition results

Men's Medal and Medal Winners

Stuart Daw recorded a superb nett 66 to win Division One and in turn won the Medal winners trophy. Runner-up in Division 1 was Adrian Izod with a nett 67. The same winning score was posted in Division 2 as Jason Kinsman also posted a nett 66 for a five shot win over Mark Gardner. Andy Land shot a nett 68 to top Division Three from a nett 70 by Mike Malone.

Have a look at the evening sky from the day - amazing view!

The scoring was excellent in the Teignagers' Monthly Stableford. Pete Verney was top man in Division One after an excellent 39 points pipped Dave Stevens by one point. Score of the day however was jointly held by both Bob Read and Ken "the spin king" Bessant who both recorded 41 points. Ken's score included an incredible 26 points on the front 9 holes!
