The weather remains on our side and the course is playing great so don't miss out on some end of summer season golfing. As the winter season approaches we can all prepare ourselves for some winter golf. By having the correct clothing and equipment there is no reason why we cannot keep playing regular golf this winter. Easy money for Darren and Stuart
Churston was the location of this week's Devon Professional Golfers Alliance as eight of us from the Valley took part in both Pro-Am and Am-Am betterball events, as well as James and myself playing in the professional individual event. The course was in superb condition with the greens running quick!
The four pairs we had playing were myself and Stuart Daw, James and Dave Shipp, Vince Chalk and Paul Vice with the fourth group being Darren Chaplin and Justin Powesland. As always the main competition of the day is the £5s we all put in the pot to play for with the winning pair taking the lot. Taking the pot this time with a very convincing 5 shot win was myself and Stuart. Obviously I will not be bragging about this at all!
We also had a respectable finish in the Pro-Am section of the main event. In the Pros' Individual event I made some carless mistakes on the back nine to finish six shots off the lead but just pipped bragging rights over James.

Congratulations to Micky Davis after he had a hole-in-one on Saturday in the B Team match at home to Bovey Tracey. Micky hit a perfectly struck 8-iron on the 10th hole that pitch on the green and then rolled out in to the hole to spark wild celebrations!
Jon Martin recorded the score of the day in the Men's Stableford as his 44 points won Division One. Runner-up was Luke Yates with 39 points. Greg Gould's superb 43 points took Division Two's honours with Steve Pierce runner-up with 40 points. Paul Hanslip returned 38 points to win Division Three, pushing Steve Hole's 37 in to second place.

Playing with a rain grip glove - Rain grip gloves are specifically designed to help you maintain correct traction on the golf club in wet conditions. They are specially designed to grip better when they are wet and so are a must carry in your bag in the winter season.

Chip and run
The more the ball stays on the floor the more controllable and reliable the shot. The ideal chip and run should be played with a reduced stance (to limit club speed), ball should be in the middle of the stance and hands slightly forward to aid a downward blow/angle of strike. Weight should also be mainly left sided (up to 70%) with normal knee flex. From there the aim is the stay in this balanced position and do not try to neutralise during the shot. The swing itself should be a one lever, small follow through action with the shaft leading throughout. Club of choice can vary giving very different results.
