Hello golfers,
I hope this finds you well. I would like to start by thanking you for supporting our Hardware Sale last weekend. We had a very busy time with lots of you picking up some superb bargains. Keep coming in to the pro shop and reading the newsletters as there will be plenty of great offers and promotions in-store in the build up to Christmas. Life at the club is still pretty busy and we have a busy run of events coming up the next few weeks. Please check HowDidIDo and the notice boards for sign-up sheets and support these great events.
Can you beat us?
This Saturday, Ted and I are putting ourselves in the firing line by letting you take us on in the Captain and Pro Challenge. Playing in a betterball stableford, we will produce a score that you have to try and beat. There is a trophy for the pair with the best score on the day (hopefully Ted and myself) and prizes down to 5th place. We are hoping to raise some money for the Captain's Charity along the way. There are still a few spaces so please sign-up online.
Festive Day
Our annual Festive Day competition takes place on 5th December. This will be a shotgun start at 10am and will be played in teams of four. This is always a brilliant day and is a great way to build up to the Christmas holidays. The sig- up for this is online.
Stan Jones was the man to record the best score of the day in tough conditions as his 36 points took Division One's honours in the most recent Teignagers Stableford. Ted Ridgewell was runner-up with 34 points. Ken Bessant topped Division Two with 35 points, pipping Len Thomas.
In really tough conditions, a decent field took to the course to compete in the Men's Stableford. Topping Division One with a very decent 37 points was Liam Hanslip with Nigel Jones runner-up on 35 points. Division Two was won by Darren Bingham with a best of the day 38 points, pushing Chris Pugh in to the runners-up spot with 37. Stephen Saunders took Division Three with 37 points for a two point victory over Ben Coggavin.

Save shots with a GPS watch
I have been astounded at how many golfers have improved their results on the back of purchasing a GPS device or rangefinder. Knowing exactly how far you have left to the green will undoubtedly help you to choose the correct club to play the shot with. It also helps you to start working out how far your clubs actually go if you are unsure. If you have yet to purchase one then please take the time to come in to the shop and let us talk you through what's available and what might best suit your game. We have a great range of watches in stock from Garmin and SkyCaddie and range finders from Bushnell and Nikon with plenty of demos available. They will make a perfect Christmas gift as well.
We are your number one stop for Christmas shopping
So Christmas is definitely on its way and so is the start of Christmas shopping. As usual we will have all your golfing needs and wants in stock at the pro shop. We would like to help your family and friends buy you the golfing gifts you would love this Christmas. Non-members are always welcome at the club so please feel free to send them up to buy any gifts you have suggested. Here is how it works:
- Write down what item you want in our book of present requests so
- Tell your friends or family to come down to the pro shop
- When they come into the shop, we will tell them what you've written down in the book
- They then purchase this
- You open a present you want on Christmas Day
This is perfect if that friend or family member is a non-golfer as this can sometimes be quite confusing or awkward for them when they come in to shop. Let's make Christmas shopping easy this year for everyone.

The Boss reigns supreme!
I like nothing more than a challenge! So on a quiet afternoon this week when James challenged myself and Justin Powelsland to a nearest the pin competition at Pebble Beach on our GC2 simulator, I certainly wasn't going to shirk away from it!
Now as you all know I am pretty quiet and reserved and not normally one to brag about performance however on this occasion I think it's justified to put on record my convincing 4-1-1 victory.
I expect my winnings are in the post boys so thank you and keep practicing ready for any re-match you may fancy!
Winter tips - The winter chip shot
When the grass is wet, slightly muddy and you may be off the fairway not making use of that preferred lie, you do not want to always hit the high tariff lob shot. Many times a more sensible shot can be played that you could reproduce more times out of ten. The 'bump and run' can be played with a variety of clubs ranging from SW to a 7-iron but the way it is played must remain fairly regimented. Feet want to be quite close together with ball in the middle of the stance. This limits the backswing (as we will be controlling dynamic loft). The handle wants to be ahead of the ball and weight mainly on the left foot (right-handed golfer) to ensure a descending blow. The backswing wants to be with no, to a small amount of hinge and controlling with a short rigid follow through. This action will get the ball moving forward and can be played regardless of ground conditions. A must shot to have in the winter!
A note to all members that I am changing the standard length of my lessons to ensure I am not cramming in information and to give the best possible session. I am now coaching in 45 minute slots for £25 effective immediately.
Coaching deal - 4-hole playing lesson - £25
