Hello golfers,

I hope all is well. It's great to see so many of you still braving the elements and taking to the golf course despite the changing weather conditions. The course is still standing up well and it is great to still have trolleys in operation, but to help with the condition of the course it would be useful where possible for golfers to use a carry bag at times just to lighten the wear and tear created by the trolleys. It is also time to be aware of the potential of frost and the impact this may have on trolley use. It is advisable to put a carry bag in the car as a precaution in case the frost deters us from using trolleys.

Captain pro challenge

Saturday saw myself and Ted pit ourselves against the rest of the Club in the annual Captain and Pro Challenge. Playing as a pair and in very tough conditions, Ted and I set about recording a score that was going to be tough to beat. With scoring a betterball stableford we had our work cut out to try and hold off the challengers. Our motivation was that any pair we beat would have their entry fee put in go the Captain's Charity.

Thankfully we managed to dovetail quite nicely and we signed for 40 points. Luckily there were only two scores posted better than ours which were a superb 43 points by Justin Powlesland and Paul Vice, and the winning score of 44 points by Martyn Eden and Darren Roe who collected the Captain and Pro trophy for the second year running. Ted and my efforts were well worthwhile as we managed to raise a brilliant £345 for the Captain's Charity. Thank you to all those who took part.

We are your number one stop for Christmas shopping

So Christmas is definitely on its way and so is the start of Christmas shopping. As usual we will have all your golfing needs and wants in stock in your local pro shop. We would like to help your family and friends buy you the golfing gifts you would love this Christmas. Non-members are always welcome at the club so please feel free to send them up to buy any gifts you have suggested. We are keeping a book of present requests so all you need to do is let us know exactly the item you want someone to buy you and we will write it in our request book. You then tell your friends or family what it is you would like and then they can come in to the shop and purchase it as we will have a record of exactly what you want. This is perfect if that friend or family member is a non-golfer as this can sometimes be quite confusing or awkward for them when they come in to shop. Let's make Christmas shopping easy this year for everyone.

Christmas shopping special weekend

We are holding a special Christmas shopping weekend on Saturday, 12 December and Sunday, 13 December. This is a great time for your family and friends to come up and save some money whilst buying you the Christmas present you really want. There will be some great savings and offers and we will be offering FREE mince pies and mulled wine for all our shoppers. We also have the bonus of everyone spending £50 or more on Christmas shopping being entered in to our prize draw.

MOT your game

Re-gripping your clubs

As we enter in to the winter golf season it is a great time to start looking at the condition of your grips. It is inevitable that over a period of time your grips will start to wear and you will lose traction on them. As this happens the most common compensation is to grip the club tighter, however this has a negative influence on your shots as a tight grip will lead to tension and in turn cause a lack of rhythm and poor positioning throughout your golf swing causing poor golf shots. Re-gripping your clubs prior to winter weather will certainly help you grip your clubs more effectively. We have a wide range of grips in stock and offer free fitting with any grips purchased.

Putting tips

Due to the course seeing more rain than we were having a couple of months ago, the greens will be slightly slower even with the support work done by our greenstaff. A key to cope with slower greens is to push the handle slightly ahead at address to ensure the ball rolls quicker off the blade. This forward press is one that needs to be practiced but can be key to ensure that ball always rolls to the hole. Another tip to think about is that with more grass on the greens, the breaks are going to be reduced - hit it slightly harder and straighter than normal to maximise results.

Please be aware that the main days I will be coaching are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between 8:00am - 8:00pm. Sessions can be booked on other days if possible, and talked about with me in advance. I will notify of any changes to the days when needed.

A note to all members that I am changing the standard length of my lessons - to ensure I am not cramming in information and to give the best possible session I can I am now coaching in 45 minute slots for £25 effective immediately.

Juniors - Saturday, 28 November between 9am-12noon. Please note the sessions will go ahead regardless of the weather in our indoor simulator
